Reported cause
i've had this warning light come up last week on my 996 TT (and previously the PSM/ABS lights) - diagnostics showed it was the oxygen sensor, which is being replaced next week.

Suspected cause
As you say a flashing CEL is usually emissions most likely a sensor, the sooty tail pipe may be due to overfueling on one bank due to what ever issue you have, if it is over fuelling then it will toast your exhaust cat before long so suggest you take it in and get the codes read and rectified ASAP

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

the other day after about 10 mins driving from cold the check engine light flashed(manuall says emmision controll light) a couple of times and whent off drove for severall hours and didnt show again, noticed that left exhaust seems more sooty than other any ideas ?
If you can then get the codes read then do.
If you carry on driving it and it doesn't appear again and there is no obvious problem with the car then I wouldn't worry about it.
Although it is odd it didn't stay on as it should do until cleared or the ignition has been cycled 7 (i think) times.
MAF :?: :?:
I'm probably wrong but a common problem as I understand.
That & coil packs
Someone will probably be along to correct me shortly  :worship:
