Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I queried you all about the relative merits of Milltek v. AWE a few weeks ago and based on the excellent feedback I got back I decided that Milltek fit my needs most closely and ordered the sytem (catback only). I mentioned I would report back how I like or dislike the system so here goes. I am amazed at how subtle the sound characteristics are. While it does provide more "grunt" at higher RPMs and under load, there is really negligable increase in dba inside the cabin, at least to my ear. At idle the system sounds a bit beefier than the stock system. All around I very much like the results in terms of sound -subtle but the car sounds somehow stonger. If there is a benefit in performance I take your word for it but it is not material - sure feels fast to me and again the new sound is great. Took the shop under two hours from unpacking the boxes to drive away. Maybe this is the way everyone does it but they removed the entire stock system in one piece after first removing the wheels which provided more room for the guys to work. They also installed the Milltek system in one piece, got all the pieces level and plumb and then tightened the thing together. Pretty simple operation. Question - I seem to have some low grade vibration at idle which I did not have with the stock system - not a major shake but noticable. Is this normal or does the dampening system require adjustment? Again thanks for the input in helping me decide between the systems. I know AWE is a good system but i am confident that I made the right choice for my needs.

POST 2Original post

Sounds like you made a great choice for your needs and glad to hear you are happy with the Milltek. As for a low grade vibration I didn't have that so I suspect something needs tightened or tweaked a little so as not to vibrate.

POST 3Original post

It seems that I recall reading another install thread, where a 2nd technician held down on the tail pipe, while the system was tightened - and that prevented that vibration from occurring. http://www.planet-9.com/showthread.php?t=6761&highlight=exhaust+vibration

POST 4Original post

There's a DIY(in the articles section) on adjusting aftermarket systems for just that. I love the Milltek - and got to hear it ripping across the tarmac at a time trial this past weekend (my co-driver won ladies class both days - Caygirl). The sound was perfect imo...
