When my dealer replaced my seal, it was done with no questions asked.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have a 1999 996 that has a leak in the RMS. Unfortunately, my car is out of warranty. Does anyone know what the Porsche's position on fixing a known problem out of warranty and what the approximate cost is if I have to pay for fixing it?
I believe that the RMS was fixed before. However, I am the second owner.
Thank you.
Since this is a well known weakness in the car, PCNA may cover it. I have found that a good relationship with the dealer is essential, since they will be the ones to go to bat for you with PCNA. If the car has any documented track days, then I would doubt if it will be covered. Start with the dealer and go from there
Any info on the RMS problem? I just bought a 99 996 a few weeks ago and am beginning to fear that I have a RMS problem also. I had the car checked out by a reputable Houston,TX shop prior to purchase, but now have noticed a few oil spots under car. Also have oil on bottom of engine that appears to be coming from region of tranmission/engine connection. Haven't had time to get checked out yet. Any thing you could pass on would be helpful.

I've heard of BMW dealers getting ugly about track time, but never heard a Porsche dealer giving anyone a hard time. I'd be very disappointed if this were true.

Had mine checked out in Houston also (and within a month have now got small seep at RMS. At what does it become critical and start affecting the clutch?
My service manager made the comment to me that "I am in the business of selling race cars. Why should track use effect the warranty." Granted I had only a harness bar and harnesses with street tires on it by the time it got to him, but it sure made me feel better.
I had oil seepage. The dealer replaced a gasket and resealed some bolts and now no more leak. I do a lot of DE's and have many mods and the dealership did not blink an eye.
Regards,
Mike
My dealer sez if it's 'sweating' around the area of the RMS, then there's no need to worry. But if it's leaking--like on the floor--then it needs to be replaced. Probably should do the clutch at the same time if the mileage is high and it wasn't done before (ca $2,500). They recently did a clutch on a 996 with just 1,900 miles because of a leaking RMS.

It has only dropped 3 drops in 2 months but the seal area is very oily and dirty on the car.
I am taking it down to the Foreign Affair Weekend Extravaganza this weekend and may get another P-Car expert to look at it.
Thanks
