Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

I'm in the middle of doing the de-snorkle and don't know how to take out the bottom fastener. The room is too tight and looking at Ken's instructions it looks like it is a different type of fastener, but he says to remove it like the others, so I'm confused. If you can help, PM me with your phone number and I'll check in a few minutes and call you. Thanks!

POST 3Original post

The bottom is different than all the others. It is small plastic pin that is part of the grille that you're removing -- it sticks in a hole that is part of the body. Release all of the other clips and pull the grille out towards you a little bit, then lift the whole thing straight up and out. The shaft will come out of the hole at the bottom and the grille will be free. This one got me too. The article doesn't really show that part... Here's a shot of the bottom pin from when I did mine:

I ran out of daylight and quit. I will try Monday again. Thanks!

POST 5Original post

That's what I had figured out after reading Ken's article. But I pulled up hoping the whole pin would come up, but it didn't. I was pulling straight up though but from looking at more pictures afterward, I think I have to pull with the grill angled a bit toward the front of the car, because that pin sits at an angle. There is no way I will flex the grill enough to get that screw driver to unsnap that bottom fastener. With my luck, I will crack the grill.

POST 6Original post

You can flex the bottom one, it is the same type of connector. On mine I got lucky and it just pulled out, for some it does this, for others it doesn't. For those who it doesn't you can still use the method as you do on teh other pins you just need to flex the piece a bit.
