Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, I have a 2003 C4S and am thinking about upgrading the head unit to something a bit more modern, like the pioneer double din units. I have done a bit of research and have seen people stating major issues with MOST bus systems, how can i check if I have the MOST system on my car please? It is the bose system with cd changer and satnav if that helps. Many thanks Simon

POST 2Original post

You have MOST.... If you really want to check, pull out the head unit or the CD changer, or lift up the boot floor so you can see the amp and you'll find two orange fibre optic cables. But, you have MOST.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thanks for the reply, shame about the most confirmation guessing this is a pig / impossible to upgrade just the head unit then?

POST 4Original post

Not impossible - my 2004 C4S is fitted with an aftermarket double-din Pioneer (and a Becker Cascade previously which was also aftermarket). You need to by-pass the MOST optical network by re-wiring with conventional cabling directly to the speakers and then back to an aftermarket amp (in leiu of the Bose am) or directly to the back of the new head unit. I had mine re-wired by a guy who makes a living out of doing this - even he said it was a pig and took him hours to complete the task. Opens up your options if you do decide to do it though. James

POST 5Original post

It's not impossible, just a bit more tricky. I swapped out the amp and headunit on mine (Do a search for Becker). A few guys have done it by just running the speakers off the headunit and not using an amp. There's a decent amount of info in the forum for doing the job. Ask away, Id write more but I'm on a slow connection at work.
