I have noticed that my windshield is fogging up with condensation on the outside of the windshield when the weather is warm out and the AC is on automatic. I usually leave the temperature at 69 degrees in the cabin. If I swipe the wipers it takes the water away, but it comes back rather quickly and is super annoying. If I turn the AC off, this doesn't happen. I think it is because the AC is so cold, but I was wondering if anyone else had this problem or have any theories of their own on this?
Not in my climate but in humid areas I've "survived" in before it required using the defrost settings to direct some heat to the windshield. Experiment and see what you find.
Question DGDDS91, are you distrbuting air to the windshield? If the system does this whilst in AUTO mode, it could cause the symptom you describe. My car does not have auto climate control but distributing AC air to the windshield on humid mornings (we have a few of those in Florida in the summer) has caused this to happen.
Yes the climate control is in auto and does distribute air to the windshield. If I try and redirect the air, auto climate goes off .
I notice this any time it is relatively humid and i use the Auto setting of the climate control. My sophisticated 'fix' is to direct the air to the dash vents, which cancels the 'auto' mode, but still allows the temp control to work. the auto mode just decides WHERE to distribute the air. even when auto is off, the auto temp control function continues to work.
Hey this just happened to me recently too and I have auto climate ctrl. I even set the temp at 69 like you. I've had the car since '07 and it hasn't happened until recently. It's not that bad on mine it's just a small patch of fogging about 3-4 inches across and half an inch high a few inches from the bottom of the windshield on the driver's side. Sometimes there's a smaller patch of fogging on the passenger side too. It doesn't interfere with driving but had me wondering why it's happening now.
Do you have recirc on?
happens to me regardless of recirc or temp setting- I get the same size patch on BOTH sides!
When you put the car on Max Air. It turns off the vents for the windshield. Its the up arrow one.
+1 this is not unique to Caymans. I had that on other cars too. It is the dash board vent and high outside humidity. Just close those vents. Just turn off auto climate and press only the down and horizontal arrows. No spots on windshield.
tried this and all seems to be well now! Thanks for the tip Dan
