so i ve got 2003 boxster and suddenly after some audio installations, new battery and oil change in my car odometer was showing 888,888km ...
what the heck!!!? well now after few drives its at 889,200 km
and it used to be 87,000 !!!
i pulled out batt again tried to trouble shoot but its stuck at 800,000 .....
im so pissed off and i cant find anything on the net to help me out .. porsche dealership is 300 km away...
is there any way of correcting this ?
thank you guys...
Sounds like the non volatile memory chip now has corrupt data in it. If consecutive powerups (battery off for 5 mins) give a different odo reading then hardware must be faulty as well.
so what do i do?
or how do i go about the reset? or odo correction?
Odo readings are intentionally made so nobody can tamper with it.
You would need to go to the dealer. Good luck!
i have to disagree i do not have to go to the dealer; i found some guys in the city that s got computer diag. machine and he said 250$ will do the trick.
How long have you been leaving the battery disconnected? If you haven't left it disconnected for as long as 10 minutes, try that before spending any money... the car really needs about 10 minutes for all the computers and controllers to re-boot.
brad
yeah ive tried resetting the system and all its really strange this would happen on my box...
done it i just got back; cost : $200.00
now im at 80.000km again!
thx for help!
no there is no security procedure my friend... money is a security procedure for most mechanics...
Its really strange its that simple. I would have thought this should be tamper proof!
yea he did it basically in front of me--connected some serial cable used his computer typed in some codes and poof! you can change km, adjust other BS , diagnostics, error codes ; oh yes he reset all my error codes
he said any german car is easily accesible using this "tool/scanner looking machine" he purchased
Scary. I didn't think even the PIWIS tool could to this.
If there's a tool that can do this, it's certainly not a PIWIS.
I know for a fact that for example with a new console, the dealer gets
one
chance to get the programming right; if they screw up and say misenter the mileage, they have to return it to Porsche in exchange for another, and the returns are tracked. This is also true for Audis; I have no idea about other German marques.
If you could
really
use a computer to enter an arbitrary mileage number, not only would used Porsches instantly be worth near zero, as it would mean
no
mileage can be counted on to be genuine, this would be front page news in the car mags as well as the regular news.
Sounds like all that happened was an error was corrected and now vehicle shows actual miles.
+1 to that. Expensive error correction.
Sorry to piss in your beer but there isn't a car in production that can't be "clocked" which is why you should always buy based on condition.
Yes, it is:
US Federal Odometer Law
If it's so easy to do, then Audi and Porsche are wasting an awful lot of money shipping consoles around.
