Suggestion
I wouldn't switch one standard exhaust for another, it's a fair amount of work for potentially little change IMO.
Leading evidence: 'Replace imo' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace imo' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. There was another '02, this one a C2 on the same run group with the PSE C4S, and at least I heard them both from the pits.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

i know that the Porsche Sports Exhaust has been discussed alot..
How much better is it over the standard exhaust on a 2003 996 cabriolet? I think the 3.6L standard exhaust has been tweeked to make it sound a bit better.
Can you hear a huge difference between the standard exhaust and the factory sports exhaust?
thanks
Chucksta

</strong></font><hr /></blockquote><font size="2" face="Verdana,Tahoma,Helvetica">Hi Chucksta,
There is a simply massive difference. Like the difference between day and night. *With* the sports exhausts, the car *sounds* like a sports car (very important to a lot of people, but not to everyone). *Without* sports exhausts, the car sounds like a vacuum cleaner ;-)
As I've said elsewhere, I've just got my car (which has sports exhausts) back from the dealer. After driving around in a loan 996 that does not have sports exhausts for a few weeks, my opinion now is that the sports exhausts should be supplied as standard, not as an option. The option should be to take them off.
Vysie please let me know how it goes...my dealer told me that they will not do the modificaiton for the exhaust to be on all the time when the car arrives in 2 weeks.
So I guess I'll have to do it myself.

I had him rev it up and I listened while it was on the track. Unfortunately, he and I were in different run groups so I could not follow him around the track. There was another '02, this one a C2 on the same run group with the PSE C4S, and at least I heard them both from the pits.
True, PSE is louder. However, the '02 std exhaust has been tweaked from '99-'01, and I'm not so sure the difference is that huge from PSE anymore. It all depends on how much you want it. Sort of like a car that has the US M030 suspension, but still wants the ROW M030. The change is there, but small, IMHO.
I just took off my 02 standard and put on PSE (no wiring, "on" all the time). Below 2500rpm there is no difference. Above that, it is a LOT louder.

I had a '99 Carrera and now a '02 Carrera. The '02 standard exhaust is a bit more pronounced than the '99, but still not what it should be, so I had PSE installed a year ago, and I cannot overemphasize how awesome it sounds. Night and day. These sound clips very accurately show the difference:

So does anybody want to get rid of their stock 02 or 03 exhasut after getting the PSE on? I have a stock 99, and would be happier with the better sounding newer stick exhausts...?
BTW: Would it even fit?
Yes it will fit, you might try ebay. Should be able to find a set cheap. Note the headers are also different on the 3.6 (thinner wall tubing)and the firing order is also different I'm told. These factors also make the bigger 3.6 sound better.
If you want OEM, get a 99-01 PSE for your car, you can find good prices now, otherwise Fabspeed is a good aftermarket choice from a best bang for the buck standpoint. I wouldn't switch one standard exhaust for another, it's a fair amount of work for potentially little change IMO.
