I checked the cost options before choosing and this was the cheapest with USPS within the std checkout process.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Picking up on rEd's idea that we can start a thread that contains a list of all local and overseas suppliers that may help P. owners source parts etc.
PFA members can add to this list via a new thread. Open to suggestions.
For 356, early and mid 911's Spyder Automobiles in Warragul, are a good starting point.
Pelican Parts and Sierra Madre in US. Patrick Motorsports.Com (Phoenix), plus others listed in Excellence magazine or on their site.
Design 911, Karman Connection -UK
And don't forget you local Porsche Centre - Spare parts people who are always most helpful.
Slater and WHO?!?
I think that there is plenty of room on this forum for positive feedback about good suppliers and workshops, and therefore by default, those not mentioned miss out on the goodwill generated by the discussion. I agree with jnr356 (again!) that its an ugly can of worms to start slagging off suppliers in a public arena, might I suggest that Personal Messages (and Carpark Perve and Gasbag sessions) are a better way of communicating grievances without exposing individuals to liable potential.
Social networking (and lets face it boys and girls, thats what PFA is), introduces all kinds of grey areas when it comes to opinion, and conjecture. We need only look at those in our community (more often sportspeople or wannabe celebrities) who tweet their innermost navel gazings only to find that they are held accountable for the implications of their venom (and/or stupidity). Freedom of speech is in reality not as free as you might think, and nor should it be. Just because someone
says
so, doesn't
make
it so. And unfortunately this is where opinion teeters between.
Opinions?
Kerry
Agree with you Kerry,
A list is one thing. Voicing opinions about supplier issues is another. Rennlist contains some critical threads about the unscrupulous but most list members stomp on this practice one way or another.
Best to be practical and not attract unwanted attention from our legal fraternity over issues that can be usually be sorted another way.
Cheers to all.

Quick plug for weber performance in mordialloc then - I ordered a set of K&N filters for my IDA40's but got sent some rebuild kits by mistake ... so Daniel came around and dropped off the filters instead. But I caved and ended up buying the filters and the rebuild kits

For ordering parts from the UK, I've used
www.design911.co.uk
and also
www.type911.co.uk
Both have good pricing and are very reasonable on freight charges (esp compared to US webstores) but of the two, I've found that Type911 has a better level of service.
I recently ordered some parts from Sonnen Porsche in California. Their shipping was a little dear but the parts were very reasonably priced and delivery was quick. Excellent catalogue search.

Come on guys, get real. The post that I read before this one reads:
"The Bosch wiper set is the same in LHD and RHD markets.
You will need to flip over the doohickey (technical term) that connects the blade to the arm.
Also, the Bosch blade does not locate in the arm quite as positively as the original, but that's unlikely to be a problem.
James
"
I often see posts from James that are helpful, informative and not self serving. Genuine even where and when our members are not buying from him. He runs AutoHaus Hamilton's spare parts division. I've had my car serviced by AutoHaus Hamilton for 25 years and the fact that they still service it after that period of time says a lot.
When Grant, who owns the business, told me that he wanted to start a spare parts business so that his clients could get their parts at reasonable cost, I put him in touch with my son, (JustJames on this forum) who has had Porsche exposure for 35 odd years through my 3 Porsches and his own interest; - as you may see from his posts, he knows a lot about them. James runs the AutoHaus Hamilton spare parts division, has developed a strong following in a short time because he will charge you a very reasonable price for locally available parts, and is always happy to share his knowledge. He goes above and beyond. I'm proud of him.
I've been intrigued because, despite so many people commenting to me socially and on Porsche Club events about the good service that they've enjoyed from AutoHaus, no one on this forum has mentioned him yet. I figure it is time to give him a plug. When next you are looking for parts, try him as well and I'm sure that you'll have a pleasant surprise:

Just a bit of a plug for TD Automotive
www.tdautomotive.com.au
They work on both my cars and do an excellent job - they do everything apart from paint
also a plug for
www.fcpeuro.com
for very cheap parts
used exoticar in parramatta and judging by the quality of the cars there they seem to know their stuff (mint 356 in slate grey, kharmann ghia and a 964).
also goodyear autocare in richmond did a great deal for me on tyres for my fuchs.
Just used sonnen porsche in California I got the rear indicators for my 964 for $260 u s dollars each against a price of $460 from porsche centre Melbourne, rear reflector cost me about $380 like caver added shipping costs on the high side but still saved on the cost of buying them here.
Thanks to James at Autohaus Hamilton for excellent service today. A small parcel of much needed parts arrived on my doorstep 24 hours after placing an order. Right price, quick delivery and even a small, sweet surprise to put a smile on my face. What more could you want?
As you probably know - I am new to the forum and new to Porsche as well - having just purchased my first car. This sort of thread is very useful to the new person like me - so thank you - choices are a good thing for everyone. Living in a rural area - I totally rely on the Internet for locating and buying goods (both domestic and overseas). When my service is due - it will mean either a drive to Melbourne or Sydney (both five hours from my place). I am yet to decide where to go - so will watch this forum with great interest.
Gotta give a plug to Larts Parts(on ebay). Luis(Lart) is a long term supporter of the 944 platform and known to all on the Rennlist 944 forums, and I have bought a lot of used bits from him over the last few years. He has great pricing on 944 used parts(USA based) and is great to deal with
More good service from James. "Met" him on the phone last week. Parts arrived the following day with a melted freddo-frog dangling from the paperwork. James, the wife likes chocolate, so that tactic will work nicely when I make more expensive purchases!
Thanks for the quick service and looking forward to meeting you face-to-face...
Also - Michael at AutoArt in Preston did my engine work, clutch, major service and a few other bits and bobs. Found him to be about 20% cheaper than the other dealers I've dealt with so far. His service is of the 'no-BS' variety, which I like.
I don't have a single thing to complain about and the car is running fabulously. It's a family business and the wife got on well with his wife and daughter in the front office, too!
My limited experience has been mostly T&D Automotive in Brisbane. They have serviced my Boxster twice at reasonable prices but the highlight was when I got sick of a "noise" that seemed to be coming from the rear suspension. They had my car in for about half an hour and test drove it then put it on the hoist and poked and prodded it for another 20 minutes. They couldn't find anything which was kind of annoying but good at the sme time. The icing on the cake was that there was no charge for the almost hour they spent on my car. T&D Automomotive are awesome!
Fennlane motor sports England - cant say well enough, how knowledgeable and helpful Chris flavell is.
Closer to home Sydney Vintage Car Restorations, Crookwell. Gil Skidmore patriarch and coach builder par excellence. It is a family run and staffed business. Well worth the drive ( great roads). Gil with notice and enough numbers, will put on a morning tea.(future SMT?)
Real Steel Group, Queanbeyan. Combined business - coach building, mechanical, paint and cool machining race fab skills
Inline suspension & steering , Yass Rd Queanbeyan. Chris is a good guy and almost solely works on Porsche. Skilled suspension guru and engine builder
Auto Atlanta have been very useful for both common and obscure parts for my P cars ; I always use their parts diagrams and the shipping is very fair . Plenty of chpoice (Porsche , OEM and aftermarket choices) Never had a problem ; always prompt and courteous in the 5 years I've been back & forth.
I've also used many of the suppliers listed above , and ebay. Always after careful research.
Just a note to share.
I recently ordered and received a part from Pelican parts with an expensive freight charge for a small item ( idler pulley ) of $45.75 AU. I checked the cost options before choosing and this was the cheapest with USPS within the std checkout process.
They sent me a survey just yesterday in which I told them all was good except the freight cost, noting this was likely out of their control.
I received an email today telling me they had refunded $13.75 AUD for the freight along with a suggestion that, "you can request USPS Flat Rate for smaller/lighter items by typing your request in the 'customer comments' section when checking out".
Of course I thanked her, (Monica Brown) for the refund and tip. I also told her I would share this with our members.
John
I'm still unimpressed by their freight system.
so you as the customer can do extra work to save yourself money? otherwise who knows where the difference in actual cost vs charge goes.
It's true Russ.
I bought a thermostat with housing from autopartssupplygroup and shipping with USPS First Class Mail Intl/First Class Package Intl Service was $12.80 AUD
When I tried them for the pulley they had it however the freight was the same as Pelican at $45.75.
Not impressed either, just counting the savings over Porsche Genuine Australia.
I just had a parcel arrive with a few bits from FCP Euro in the USA.
It arrived within a few days.
The main part was around 75% CHEAPER than another very well known US supplier. Approximately USD65 against approximately USD275.
Postage charge was not scary at all, quite reasonable.
It has a lifetime warranty.
Well here I am quoting my own boast post.
What a joke Pelican are. Yep...
I order an AOS $70odd and they now slug $50.50 for minimum USPS freight.
I do as I am instructed, leaving a note to ask for freight reduction. No answer at all and no reduction. Too late order taken and shipped.
As a comparison I check FCP Euro. $15odd freight with USPS. They have USPS priority for less than $50.50.
Ok my fault I didn't research before hand.
Thought it best to inform the rest.
Rennspd. Parts $495US. Shipping $125US UPS 7 day delivery
Pelican and Sierra Madre. Same parts $650US. Shipping $475US !! UPS 7 to 14 day delivery
Guess who I ordered from? Got here within 6 days
I should add the Rennspd have a limited parts listing, yet if youre after fibreglass parts for racing or custom mods, I'd be having a look at their site
I've only used PP and FCP Euro so far and I would normally do the same as everyone else, and shop around for the best price. But what I've found with the orders I've had (usually $400 plus), is that while one place might have a better price than the other for 1 or 2 items you end up going with the the best overall for the whole order.
If you think about it, if a part you need costs $200 in Australia and the part from O/S is less (landed cost) your better off regardless. So even if you paid $10 for the part and $100 shipping what does it matter, if the part was advertised as $110 free shipping you wouldn't even ask how it was broken down.
PP has IMO a user friendly site and generally competitive pricing, shipping calculator is not OZ friendly and while they are approachable in regards to bettering shipping costs , but I do sometimes feel like I'm dealing with a machine and not a person.
FCP Euro are limited in there product range and lines, but are competitively priced and very easy to deal with and you defiantly feel your dealing with a person.
Both offer loyalty/discount vouchers but both have expiry dates ( well one does) I've never used one as when I do my orders I try to include some service stuff etc.that I don't necessarily need just now but the more you order the better the shipping works out.
As somebody already mentioned, you have to do your research before you buy and can only blame yourself if you find out after there was a better option.
Although there will be some on here who reading this thread and are going " ooh! you buy your own parts isn't that what your greasy man is for?" But I'm sure the majority of us have to work to a budget, and it's good to know where to get the best bang for your buck.
We really should try to do some sort of Brisbane/QLD buying group?
I've found FCP Euro to be far more approachable. They've also mentioned they can pretty much get anything that Pelican can (they just have limited inventory of items on the website)
I have bought a few things from Pelican but the freight rates are what seals it for me
What sort of thing were you thinking for the buying group? I'm thinking about putting my suspension order in shortly (mainly 'cause I need an oil filter and might do it all at once)
Hadn't really thought of anything as such, it just occurred to me that of all of us PFA ers that live locally someone will probably be ordering or just about to order some stuff every month (on average).
So for example if you were just about to order $500 worth of suspension bits, and you send out a group e-mail to let the group know and I come back to you saying I want these 2 parts and willing to pay $20 shipping, you add it to your order and say ok or need another $5 postage.
Some basic rules would be required obviously, but just thought I'd throw it out there and see what interest there is. Need to keep it simple though..
after spending the morning making a cart on FCP Euro, I'm spending a bit more than $500 :|
anyone else need anything? I might do a bit of editing first so might be a few days until I place the order. I'm buying some stuff for my dad too and I think we're at about $300 postage atm (but it is lots of stuff)
I just wish to give props to MP Motorsport here in Adelaide.
Time and time again these guys ( Mark and John) help me with the little parts like clips or whatever when I find I need them like today.
I could smell raw fuel, and found my fuel tank was leaking a tiny bit at the drain plug (it had been sealed with some sort of hard paste!), so John at MP found an old tank, pulled the plug out to match up a suitable correct washer and handed me 3 of them without payment.
Mark has done this sorta thing before with some headlight springs and wires I was missing.
It isn't much to them, but for customer relations, this goes a long way in my books
Here's another
"Yay"
moment for Porsche Centre Adelaide. I went into the parts department this afternoon to order a replacement door lock surround. The guy in there, who's name escapes me, so I'll ask him when I pick it up, and then write it down, says hey, haven't seen you for a while, then strikes up a conversation. Chatted for 10 minutes or so. Then he searches my part. Yep, we have some in Melbourne. $10 each. Sweet, I'll take 2. Should have them Thursday. I'll give you a call. Excellent service once again.
There are 2 on ebay currently. A 2nd hand one with a noticeable crack for around AU$42 landed, and a new one for just over AU$67 landed. Serious? Who's going to pay that? Pelican has them for $9.50 plus delivery.
As they say in the Foodland ads, it pays to shop local.
Was doing some parts surfing on the net this afternoon & discovered something that has been right in front of me all this time. It sucks being a dude sometimes, the old can't see the forest for the trees syndrome. Just like being at the supermarket with the missus, they tell you to grab something from the shelf that I can't see but it is right there in front of you. ffs
When on the Sierra Madre homepage. Just click on the How Are We Doing? link & it will take you to a quick survey, once you have completed the survey you will be supplied with a 10% coupon code for your next purchase. Will definitely take a nice chunk off the postage cost of a decent sized order. See green circled area on photo below, for the link.
I have generally bought the majority of my spares (Porsche and MB and even Volvo) from overseas (mainly US but some UK and even Germany) and usually from FCP euro, service has been good and freight times are really good, freight can be an issue though, even though they are the cheapest freight I have found anywhere from the US. They have most parts or in most cases can find.... I have recently returned stuff to them and am still waiting to see how that panned out....
Edit: the return went very well to FCP with freight and full price refunded, I will definitely use them again!

Shout out to James at Autohaus in NSW.......I needed a new G series indicator stalk (common problem of lights going out when the stalk returns and repaired too many times).
I had an OS price that was half what PCM offered, gave James a call and he matched it along with the standard Caramello Koala.....great service....keep them in mind for local supply!
Whats the current go to supplier for small parts?
I need some interior bits and bobs for my 996.
All I can really find is
http://www.aporschapart.com
Although good to see Porsche now has a decent 996 section on it's site for heritage parts
🙂
Has anyone used Das 9 in Adelaide for parts? They are Porsche wreckers and I have been in contact with them looking for some interior parts and they seem to have quite a bit of stuff. I might go for a drive to see them next week to have a look at what they have that I might "need"
He’s going to go and drive the silver one at Richmonds today “for a friend”, fall in love all over again, make them a ridiculous offer they accept and deal done
You're not helping at all Phil
😁
🙄
It's over what I would/could pay for a 996 mate, so it's safe for anyone else. I haven't heard back from Carlo yet, so I'll call him shortly
Just updating this to share my experience with Sonnen Parts in USA - I'd ordered just over $2k worth of parts and they dropped the price to under $2k so I wouldn't have to pay the Harvey Norman tax. They also lowered the shipping cost as it was less than quoted online. All of this was unsolicited.
Very happy with that. It's been less than a week to get to "shipping" status, and that includes ordering from the factory in Germany.
I comparison shopped between Pelican Parts, Sunset Porsche and Sonnen, and they were the cheapest by a few hundred dollars.
I would recommend.
Anyone used partscontainer.com?
I need a new switch and these guys are cheap enough and have a high positive feedback.
Haaaah wrong pics.
Anyway disregard the pics. Anyone, anyone?
Ok i took the plunge.
Partscontainer is also known as newparts.
The switch turned up in their designated time frame. 2.5 weeks.
It has Porsche parts label on the box and Italy made and original part numbers stamped on it the same as the original one. Put it in and works fine.
Au160 bucks delivered. 315 in oz dealers. Other well known and trusted on here were 200 to 250.
I'd say given some of the horror stories told about them online, do your own research.
Oh, the original failed in a plastic part that holds the positions cracking into a few pieces. It stayed in place but interfered with a solid connection being made.
I recently found I'd lost an air conditioning compressor bushing from my 924. Unfortunately some 924 parts are getting difficult to get, and I looked and looked and couldn't find one until I came across:
http://www.porscheplanet.co.za/classifieds.php?do=main&catid=15
So I sent off an email and received a prompt response. They also had a few other parts that I'd had trouble finding and a few part that I wanted that they could supply more cheaply than some of my normal parts suppliers. Anyhow money sent and parts have been received so I was glad I found this business. So if you are looking for some parts, these guys might be worth having a look at.
Anyone had any dealing with this company?
Or does anyone know if there is a distributor in Oz , not having any luck getting a responce from any of the listed distributors.
