As someone who just bought a used 718GT4 because the dealer would not sell me a new one, I noticed that the used car prices seems to be softening. Cars seems to be standing at the dealers longer and some have been reduced. Even cars with nice specs. No regrets from me but feel that anyone looking now may get a good deal before summer comes. What do you guys think/found?
Sold my old 718 GT4 recently so have been watching prices a bit. Not sure I’d agree with you. There were 20 cars for sale second hand in the dealer network recently and that’s now down to sub 10 and most with comfort spec. Mine was a good spec (inc bucket seat) car with highish miles at 7,000 yet it returned me what I’d consider to be very strong money. The end of production coupled with the rave reviews on GT4RS will all help values I suspect. There’s many worse places to put your money than in a 718 GT4
Looking at how many cars are currently available for sale used in the Opc network, I would disagree.
Used appears to be the only option for most new porsche models at the moment.
Ps. Enjoy it and drive it, don’t get to worried about values.
I would tend to agree with you guys but I noticed that OPC Solihul had a red GT4 at £101k but now reduced to £96k with nice specs and buckets. Maybe a one off?
If it's a fully loaded 2022 CS PDK in PTS then it might be worth it. These cars are so different based on spec you just can't say a 718 GT4 at £x is cheap/about right/expensive. The devil is in the details.
The car you mentioned was a 2019 manual with a good spec over and above CS. It's worth mid-nineties.
Until last weekend for the past month or two there were constantly c 20 OPC Gt4s but by Tuesday 13 had sold and there were only 7. The typical Porsche GT Spring buying flurry appears to have kicked off following the warmer weather.
Currently 10 for sale but 7 are comforts and priced accordingly.
Prices look fairly static and should stay robust if not rise towards summer particular as the better cars typically sell numbers are reduced and demand grows.
Other factors to consider are the restricted supply and imminent production ceasing and supporting prices of the 981 still commanding up to £80k for the best cars even at 6 years old.
One additional factor in the equation is the current 16 month lead time on the new Lotus Emira.

To be honest a 2022 loaded CS car in Shark Blue or similar saught after colour would be at least that at an OPC!

A couple of fairly basic spec shark blue 21 / 22 plate cars have already sold for 110k in OPC this year.
I was in my opc today and most of there stock is already sold, not one GT car available.

Personally I disagree with that.
As somebody with a new GT4 on order, I have been watching used 718 cars/prices like a hawk for the entire time I've been waiting for my car. I have/had every Autotrader and OPC car saved to see when/if it sells (yes that's the sort of person I am). I can say with the upmost confidence that prices are rising and cars are moving quickly regardless of spec (the 718 doesn't seem to suffer from Must have Bucket/CS/Ceramics syndrome like the 981 does). There was a lull over the winter Dec/Jan/Feb period, but that's to be expected, and as we move into Spring and into Summer I can only see values continuing to rise. As somebody previously mentioned, 12 718's disappeared from OPC stock last weekend, and RPM/Ashgood/Romans etc are all moving there's for good strong money. If what the dealers are saying is correct about GT4 production stopping in the next few months, then I can still only see values rising further.
Having said all that, remember, screen price and the price you get for the car in p/x/trade, are two totally different things.
GT4RS said:

I would say the market is on the up, now the weather has changed.
That was the PTS Maritime Blue?
There are currently 27 718GT4s from the porsche website with the cheapest being 2020 at 89k but the list price new is 82k before options. Not sure how low the used prices will be in 3 to5 years. Will it get to 75k?
Doubtful bearing in mind the impending production stop together with rising new prices and strength of the 981 GT4 prices even at 7 years old.
As ever with all used Porsche GTs the relative used price levels are closely linked.

5 months on from the original post, the interesting thing to note about your current observation is the 27 cars available are not always the same cars as they were a week ago. The availability of the cars changes almost daily. For example since Saturday 5 cars were sold, replaced by 3 new listings.
The market for these appears to be buoyant, probably because IMO compared to the prices being asked for all GT3's (especially 992), these are still a relative bargain. Supply of new has been choked again, so I can only see prices staying the same and or continuing to creep up.

All depends on broader economics. If we have a really bad recession real-terms prices will come down. With inflation the actual number re price is more complicated. Right now with inflation running at 10%-plus, if a car has the same sticker price in a year, it's actually lost 10% of its value, which people tend to ignore.
Just to keep up with inflation, a car that sold for £90k this spring will need to sell for about £100k next spring. We're probably going to have pretty high inflation for at least a while, so a spring 2022 £90k GT4 will probably need to be selling for £105-110k in spring 2024 to have kept up with inflation. It's pretty clear that real-terms values of these cars are falling. Inflation is very high right now keeping up with it would mean pretty obvious sticker price increases.
So, £75k would represent a very substantial loss of real-terms value. That's what you have to bear in mind with inflation running so high. £75k next spring is more like £65k this summer. £75k in 2024 or 2025 would mean a very large loss of real terms value. Would be equivalent to sub £60k in today's money. Still possible, but you'd need pretty poor economic conditions, I would suggest.
Yes but a GT4 isn't a rare car at all, loads of 981 GT4's came in 600 plus and despite Porsche pretending you are a preferred customer to get one there are s
tloads of them coming in all the time, in fact if you order one you'll get one at some point.
Overs on a GT4 is madness.
Great car though.

Really.
Which planet would that be from?
Plenty of evidence on the GT4 threads that isn't the case especially with the impending production stop. Its a well known fact that most OPCs are not receiving any more allocations including mine btw. Hardly surprising bearing in mind it has been in production for approaching 3 years now which is effectively an eternity in terms of latter day Porsche GT production.

If you factor in inflation then all cars are dropping. The price of some cars is dictated by demand outstripping supply hence why a lot of things have gone up. Yes there are ‘plenty’ for sale if 20-30 cars nationally is your definition of ‘plenty’
but buyers are picky, spec varies and in some cases a turd is still a turd even when rolled in glitter.
Inflation will only be curbed when supply satisfies demand and interest rates are above inflation. The latter will never happen with a government that ignores the elephant in the room.
From personal experience I’d wager Porsche dealers are probably offering 75-80k now given some low mileage cars are being resold at main dealers at 89k.

To be fair, it wouldn't be easy for any government to put interest rates above inflation. Our economy and home ownership is built around low interest rates these days. Interest rates at 10%+ or whatever would be complete carnage. They just do not have that option any more. Even 4 or 5% would be brutal, let alone the 17% they hit in 1979. Imagine that now!

Having recently owned a new 718 gt4, which I ordered direct from my opc new I have to agree with you.
There’s a huge amount of these cars coming through, the appetite for opc centres to buy these cars off you used is not what the market makes out. Mine took some time to sell back into the trade at a sensible price. Most of the offers I received were not that great, some even didn’t come back with a offer. Used buyers even offered less than trade, in my opinion if you really want a new gt4 just phone around and get your name out there.
I personally wouldn’t pay overs for any car.
Once how many left is updated many will be shocked how many 718 gt4 cars are in the Uk. Wouldn’t shock me if it eventually breaks a 1000 cars.
I believe there was around 700 981 gt4 delivered to the Uk. That’s not exactly rare.
In the current climate Porsche warw making cars which give the maximum profit meaning we will see more Gt, gts and turbo cars coming through.
stichill99 said:
But how brutal would continuing inflation above 10% be? Sometimes some pain is going to be necessary!
That's the trade off. What's worse? Ongoing high inflation? Or pricing half the country out of their houses / mortgages?

604 981 GT4 registered in the UK, of the 500 they had said they would limit it to. So far 806 718 GT4 registered, and probably slowing to a trickle now. Have to agree, not exactly rare. If you can't order a new one, there will be plenty of used to go at for a while yet.

Does seem to be a theme at the moment, in what I can make out from the trends in registrations. But the supply of 718 GT4s definitely peaked in 2020, and with the slow trickle of new registrations in 2022, it looks to me as if they'll want to stop making them soon.

There's some anecdotal evidence that the general UK allocation of Porsches has been constrained. It may not be true, but it's possible that supplies / production of models like the GT4 have remained at largely the same levels but the UK has been allocated fewer cars. Certainly, lots of people are posting that they have been told by OPC staff about pitifully small allocations of a wide range of models, meanwhile Porsche is reporting record production volumes, including the sports cars.
So, it's possible the UK is seeing fewer GT4 registrations but production isn't actually tapering.

There are 718 718Gt4's in the UK, coincidentally.
To be fair to Porsche they did say at the launch of the GT4 that "everyone who wanted one would be able to get one"
I had one and did 6k miles on it and sold it back to the dealer at what I paid for it. That was, in my mind a great result.
It was over a year ago now so prices have come off a bit.
But even so if you get 5k below list, it is still cheap motoring? That's where Porsche get it right.

How many left has been known to be wrong.
Bear in mind those figures are only to the end of the first quarter of 2022. Since then there has been quite a few registered mainly PDKs which could well bring parity of numbers between PDK and manual overall similar to the GT3.
Interesting that the production run of the 718 GT4 at approaching 3 years is one of the longest for latterday Porsche GTs but that does not translate to an equivalent relatively greater volume of cars due to the effects of the pandemic and componentry supply issues 'restricting' production which will be ceasing very soon.

Are you sure that is correct? How many 718 GT4s have been made overall? Porsche made 300,000 cars last year, more than 2019 / pre pandemic and will make even more this year.
Porsche overall annual sales:
2016 - 234K
2017 - 246K
2018 - 253K
2019 - 277k
2020 - 265K
2021 - 300K
Slight dip in 2020, but still higher than every previous year ever bar 2019. 2021 was also 38K 911s, I think probably an all-time record, and 2021 is even higher so far. So no issues cranking out sports cars. I don't know the 718 GT4 numbers or if they are even available. But my bet is that GT4 volumes are big overall, just with a lower proportion delivered to the UK than you would have historically expected.
Higher volume doesn't necessarily mean lower prices. An increased demand might have more than offset for the added volume. It's the balance between the 2 that counts to a great extent.

I’m not, it’s close to the same price as the next gen model that’s 5 years newer.
^^^^^^
It’ll never sell for that! As soon as you drive it you’ll eat into the overpriced premium as the odometer clicks on. Whilst I think the 981 is a great platform and wouldn’t want to upgrade to a 718 GT4 others will at this price.
Been considering a 718 GT4 or a 997 GT3 for a while and with what now seems like no build slots remaining for the GT4s, looking at these two:

Anyway, I don't think you were talking about UK 'production', you were clearly talking about Porsche production generally, but whatever. Either way, you're not aware of all the facts, which clash with what you're saying. You don't actually know how many GT4s have been made. None of us do. I think as long as you have the buckets seats you don't need the club sport pack.
Think you can still fir the harnesses as these do not rap around the roll cage in the GT4.
You would just have to check.

I’ve seen the second car in person last time it was there…
Has been handed back this time in exchange for the Black ‘MR’ car.
When I saw it last, it was quite nice… that owner (that I know) has acquired from OPC Guildford and exchanged to Ashgood for a GT Silver 991 RS.
These are still ‘new’ cars, so main thing IMO will be that ideally they should have FPSH and some Porsche warranty remaining.

I'm almost certain that is the very car I came so close to buying in Sept 2020. It was at Edinburgh OPC, on SOR with only 559 miles at the time for £92k. It's a stunning spec.

Either way, you're not aware of all the facts, which clash with what you're saying. You don't actually know how many GT4s have been made. None of us do. But my suspicion is that they've built lots and lots of them.

Oh silly me and there I was assuming all the Porsche GTs I have owned came from their Chorlton cum Hardy plant in south Manchester.
You may have been talking about worldwide production but I wasn't you just made that up. I was clearly talking about UK cars thats why How Many Left was referred to which is a guide to UK numbers if you didn't grasp that..... capiche.
Wonder if theres a real world difference between 'lots' and 'lots and lots'.
As other posters have commented on and more to the point why are you posting under a new name instead of cMoose it is quite obvious who you are by your typically argumentative and abrasive posting style.

What? Yet another account / name? How many has he had since he "left"?
. The issues are still there and palpable though.

I haven’t gone for either… yet. I was planning to view this week. Both still look to be for sale when I search?
I have a Gentian blue car that I'm considering moving on. Might not be to your taste but happy to discuss offline if you're interested. I would have pm'd you but email is switched off in your profile.

You say you 'clearly talking' about UK numbers, but this was the bit I quoted and replied to:

Interesting that the production run of the 718 GT4 at approaching 3 years is one of the longest for latterday Porsche GTs but that does not translate to an equivalent relatively greater volume of cars due to the effects of the pandemic and componentry supply issues 'restricting' production which will be ceasing very soon.
Are you now saying that the "effects of the pandemic and componentry (sic) supply issues 'restricting' production" you reference in that quote are a UK thing? You clearly weren't talking about the UK, but for some reason now, you are trying to say you were. Whatever.
