[HR][/HR]Hi! Sincé I bought my 2006 Cayman S 2 years ago, it has been doing a whining noise, not always, sounds like someting related with the belt, is not loud, and intermitent. I changed the belt and the main tensor, but it's still doing it. When I leave in the dealer they said that is not doing it, because they only turn it on and leave the car started. They usually make it after drive it... If I started the car in the garage and I leave it turned on it doesn't make it... If I turn A/C it still doing it and if I press the clutch too. Regards!

It could very well be your water pump. The first few years of these cars have had a fairly significant failure rate. If it's never been replaced there a good chance that's the problem. Mine started doing the "whining" intermittently, but very quickly went to a full time whine until the pump was replaced. Good luck.

usually weird intermittent noises can be bad bearings on any of the accessories: alternator, water pump, or idler pulleys.

Is it engine RPM related or vehicle speed related? I have a soft "whirrr" noise sometimes that is speed related. Pitch deepens as the car coasts from highway speeds to a stop. Sound remains whether I'm in gear, clutch depressed, or out of gear. After doing some reading, it seems like it's just gears meshing as they should and nothing to be concerned with. Engine RPM related noise is something to look into for sure.
