I had my wheels rebalanced twice, and swapped the spacers around front to rear...to no avail. Took them off...problem went away.

Last owner tells me that he had spacers on which he had taken of, but would recommend - 15m front and 18mm at rear.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Have just bought 2002 C4 Coupe (not C4S) on 18" Sport Tech wheels with Techart 30mm lowered suspension. Last owner tells me that he had spacers on which he had taken of, but would recommend - 15m front and 18mm at rear.
Having spoken to Porsche dealer, I gather that Porsche make a 5mm spacer, which he recommends.
Question:
1. Do I go for spacers at all?
2. If so, what size?
Thsnks,
15 & 18" seems reasonable but not overly aggressive. There might be some limitations due to the fact that is already lowered.
Porsche recommends 5mm but they don't do much. Some suggest you can use the 30mm bolts with the 5mm spacers, but I would go to 38mm if you did that. However, I tried those and they didn't to anything for me, but mine wasn't lowered. Good luck!
The only spacers that will fit my C4 are the 5mm ones, and I have ROW030 suspension and 18" Turbo II wheels. Because I specified those options from new my rear arches are rolled. If the original purchaser didn't then you may have clearance problems.
Thanks for comments.
Sorry not sure what "rolled" means. Can you explain please.
As was previously on 18mm and 15 mm (f/r), assume clearance was ok.
Are Tech Art parts well regarded?
(I am a returnee to Porsche having taken a 10 year break!)
Sorry, but other than using spacers for non oem rims, why do people put spacers on the car with oem rims? To push the rim out from asthetics? I was told that if you use spacers, and over a certain size that it messed up the geometry of the kingpin angle and wears things aggressively. I serously am not making fun or anything, just don't understand the use. Thanks.
I have run spacers with my 2001 996. I have lowered the car with H&R'sand I am running 19" Speedlines. Here is what I have found.
The factory Porsche suspension settings are "dialed-in". Any modifications must be truly analyzed for their adverse effects on what Porsche has developed. he psrings that I have are the perfect ride height and handle well under road and track conditions as they are progressive. While running 14mm H&R spacers on fron and rear made the car look good, two things occured.
1.) the front end shook no matter what at common daily highway driving speeds (60-85) when running the spacers on the front. I had my wheels rebalanced twice, and swapped the spacers around front to rear...to no avail. Took them off...problem went away. No rubbing was present with either the stock turbo twist wheels or the Speedlines.
2.) Running th spacers on the rear (14mm), rubbing occured in harsh hit conditions, such as large bumps. Easily corrected with the fenders being rolled to accomodate. I did not get to that point though...
What I found was that the tires wore extremely abnormally on the inside, beyond the characteristics of the car under normal conditions (1,500 miles and much wear showing on the extreme insid eof the tire). The offset produced by the spacer created a camber issue under stock alignement settings. Could be compensated for, but again, changes much of what Porsche engineered.
Net sum is this. I took all spacers out and swapped the reaar tires, left to right. The result is wonderful. Handles like a dream, no shimmy from front end and the rear tires are planted on the pavement as intended...and no rubbing!
As a result I discourage the use of spacers.
My $.02
