Problem is the roads up here are littered with stones, do drive outs with mates, the sills and bonnet will look a mess in no time, I know people will say respray etc but this is an essential for me.

That looks lovely and personally getting PPF protection makes a lot of sense if you're going to be using the car for B road blasts.

On tyres, most will tell me I'm right out on a limb here, but I have a set of Michelin Cup 2 for track days, high days and holidays, and the more general use road tyres are Pirelli P Zero.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you to all those who helped with my questions over the last 3 months, finally found a used car with a spec I’m happy with, gave up trying to get an allocation. My first and likely my last Porsche! Guards Red, Clubsport, 918 seats, fancy lights PDLS+, Bose stereo, some nice stitching and on the wheel, carbon interior package, sports chrono, two zone AC, folding mirrors, parking sensors, cruise, 5.6k mileage. Buying used was very hard work given the quantity of options and found it a ball ache, many didn’t have the two zone AC, wanted ceramics, clubsport and Yellow or Green. I just couldn’t find a car with them all on under 100k my maximum budget and two zone ac in a bright colour. Car will be going to Topaz to get PPF, this car is a B road fun car for me so needs maximum protection. On this matter what’s the best road tyre, I’ll be ditching the cups straight away as can be a bit wet where I live in the lakes. Cant wait to drive it next week! I’m so excited mega purchase for me, never be able to afford this type of car again. My days of trackdays are long gone but will take it to Silverstone, Spa and Nurburgring. What is the best road tyre? Should I join Porsche GB club or any other forums? Thanks again Matt

POST 2Original post

Looks superb (don’t they all?). Nice one, enjoy it

POST 4Original post

Amazing, congrats! PS4s seem to be the road tyre of choice if not using the cups

POST 5Original post

Congrats! That looks fantastic! +1 Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S. I found them confidence inspiring in our mixed climate. Hoping I get lucky with the tyre lottery when my car arrives.

POST 6Original post

Wouldn’t bother doing PPF on a car that’s done nearly 6k Save your money…Drive it and enjoy it!

POST 8Original post

After experiencing Cup2 tyres in a downpour on the road at a roundabout I decided they needed to go. Eventually went for Michelin MPS4S which are N rated, still a semi track tyre but much better rated for wet use.

POST 9Original post

Good choice same as mine bar CS had a Guards 981 GT4 now 718 GT4 which I much prefer. Welcome to the club!

POST 10Original post

Great spec GT4 in the best colour. I assume you bought it from Cardiff which was very realisically priced IMO.

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks everyone, the last time I bought a red car was 1993 when I bought a Rover Metro , love the colour. Honestly so excited, like a kid walking into a sweet shop for the first time, looking forward to collection day.

POST 14Original post

Brilliant! Glad you’ve finally got one. Another vote for the PS4S, first thing I did when I bought mine was to ditch the Cup 2’s. Sadly I’m having to sell mine as I’ve got a back injury and the 918 seats and I aren’t getting along too well. Enjoy yours!

TTmonkey said: Could I ask what the differences are that make you prefer the 718 GT4? Are they significant? Cheers. I have a 981 and have driven the 718. 981 sounds better 981 has less power and torque 981 has a very heavy clutch and steering - 718 control weights are lighter. Styling differences 718 modern infotainment (CarPlay etc) Interior is very similar It’s a deeply personal choice as they are, overall, incredibly similar.

POST 17Original post

Lovely car and colour, well done! I assume the "dual zone ac" requirement comes from having to appease the OH? Otherwise seems a weird point to get stuck over with in the scheme of such a fine car...

POST 18Original post

So, does it have VTEC, Matt? Stunning by the way.

POST 19Original post

That'll do nicely! Enjoy. Should be a belting drive back up through Wales to the Lakes.

It's mostly about the engine, and out of the box the 4.0 is a huge step above the 3.8 IMHO. The PASM setup is more refined in the 718 too without losing the ability to handle fantastically when "on it".

You buy dual zone climate for the "climate" not the "dual zone". Manual aircon with no temperature control has no place in a newly built car, especially not one at £80k+!

POST 24Original post

Looks absolutely great! Bet you can't wait. Last track day in my 981 GT4, the extra power from the 718 GT4s was just about noticeable when directly ahead of or behind them, even if the 718 was manual gearbox. They appeased me in the paddock by telling me my one sounds better. I'm not that bothered about exhaust note, but my one was available when I wanted one (before 718 GT4 was announced), so it's what I've got... On tyres, most will tell me I'm right out on a limb here, but I have a set of Michelin Cup 2 for track days, high days and holidays, and the more general use road tyres are Pirelli P Zero. At the time I got them, N-rated PS4s in the right sizes were pretty much unobtainable, and although my car is getting on a bit, I didn't want to get into any arguments about invalidation of the extended warranty through tyres that aren't Porsche approved. I use mine as daily drive in rural Lancashire, where it is wet, stony, and pot-holed. Also do 20 miles a day of motorway. I wouldn't do a track day with the P Zeroes, but I think are fine for road use. Quieter than the Cup 2s, not that grippy in hot and dry conditions, but that's only 4 days a year round here in general. But predictable enough, and actually pretty confidence inspiring in the wet. I don't use the car when there is any danger of salt being put down, but even cold and damp November roads with track-day tyres meant the car was an absolute liability to drive at times. I am completely relaxed about driving anywhere with the P Zeroes. If a track day is ever predicted as properly wet with enough notice, I think I'd give them a go. Conventional wisdom is that they are to be avoided, but as an all-rounder that seems better when the roads are slippy, they work for me. Liam

POST 25Original post

I have to say that Caymans in general and the GT4 in particular look stunning in Red. The colour suits the lines perfectly.

They're a road tyre that'll cope with a track-day or two thrown in. From Michelin's website: 'Specially designed for road and occasional track usage'

“I’m so excited mega purchase for me, never be able to afford this type of car again.” Except for the Emira you’ve just ordered and started a thread on Readers Cars about??

Congratulations OP. That looks lovely and personally getting PPF protection makes a lot of sense if you're going to be using the car for B road blasts.
