Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

27 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My intention is to have paint protection film fitted to the GT4 from day 1. I am currently in negotiation with 2 well respected companies. Both of which I have used before. There is obviously no pattern and to do just one car is proving to be quite expensive. Is anyone else here interested in the same? If so please let me know. Ideally I need about 6 cars which would bring the cost down to less than £2000 for the entire car. There will be other options on coverage.

POST 2Original post

I cannot bring myself to pay £2k for clear plastic sheet which has always in my experience dulled the colour and finish and the edges either end up black with dirt or white with wax.

POST 3Original post

Tend to agree with the last comment though lots of people on here swear by it. Surely if you are the first they can make up a template from yours? Won't that attract a decent discount? You're both getting a great car (though not one I would want), enjoy....

POST 4Original post

PorscheGT4 said: I cannot bring myself to pay £2k for clear plastic sheet which has always in my experience dulled the colour and finish and the edges either end up black with dirt or white with wax. If you get a chance have a look at the latest films when wrapped around the edges, virtually impossible to see, much improved over the last few years IMO.

POST 5Original post

I'm in. I've got quotes from two different companies to fit paint protection film to my GT4 when it arrives. Full front kit £900.00 from one company and £1550.00 from another, both + VAT.

POST 6Original post

I am thinking of this but it is for 981 Spyder when I eventually get it. So assume front kit would be same as for GT4

POST 7Original post

Two reputable companies are Paintshield and Topaz. If you could get down to £2k for the whole car that would be amazing, because even for a common car like a Boxster full coverage is closer to £4k - and they have a template for that already, so you would be getting deal of the decade for £2k... And as nice as 'no film' is, some people can't afford to respray every week - full Paintshield, 59k miles (fast motorway / cross country rallying) and not a single stone chip.

POST 8Original post

I've got an order in for a new Spyder as well, but again no idea when this might arrive ! I have been considering a film. No previous experience, so would value any advise. If you get a price that would also be cool.

POST 9Original post

I'm interested in the front cover package if there is one available? I may go for full body but not 100% yet

POST 11Original post

me too I would NOT buy a car with full cover either only front bumper cover.

POST 12Original post

PorscheGT4 said: me too I would NOT buy a car with full cover either only front bumper cover. So if a car with perfect spec and provenance at the right price came up, you wouldn't buy it if it had full cover paint protection film? Why? Surely you'd have either full protection or no protection. Worst potential case is full front protection only. With that you have half the car wrapped and half not, giving you the most likely chance of seeing a difference between covered and non covered panels next to each other.

POST 13Original post

I am keen on full front + rear 3/4 let me know if a group buy is arranged.

POST 14Original post

Paint shield did my GT3, very very nice job. Polishes up superbly

POST 15Original post

No uv protection on film either so once you cover the paint it WILL fade and you cannot polish it back up ! On the plus side if you only film 1/2 the car it will all fade the same, on the bad part, never polish the bits without film as you will not match the faded paint under the film.

POST 16Original post

The thing about 981 Caymans and GT4 could well be worse, is that rear wheel arch gets hammered with chips and looks like sandpaper very quickly. There is some mention of this on the GTS thread and I think one person got area painted under warranty. So while front cover is nice, depending on viewpoint, I think this area might be essential as not liable to fade from UV but will get marked

POST 17Original post

I'm getting a Spyder and after reading The Animal's post I'd be keen to get this film applied to my new car,

POST 18Original post

If we can get quite a few people saying 'yes' to this and maybe negotiate a better price then I'm definitely in for the full

POST 19Original post

elucius said: I'm getting a Spyder and after reading The Animal's post I'd be keen to get this film applied to my new car, Cool. I didn't need full coverage but I am OCD. Next time I would do the front kit and the rear wings only, though I'd probably end up with stone chips on the doors given the speed I take corners on B roads! The new film is very good and even if you do partial coverage you'd have to look for it to see it is there. I would say consider your usage and how long you plan to keep the car to work out whether it is worth doing.

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Not really after peoples opinions on the merits or otherwise of PPF. I think it is fabulous stuff - my decision is made just looking to find others interested. I reckon there is probably 5 or 6 here who are.

POST 21Original post

TheAnimal said: The new film is very good and even if you do partial coverage you'd have to look for it to see it is there. Perhaps more or less obvious dependant upon colour. Certainly on white cars it's clear to see as soon as they are exposed to minimal road grime. The edges are the problem.

POST 23 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

If you want your GT4 doing properly let me share my research with you. I could not be bothered with all the negativity here - so I just arranged it for myself. PM me if you want the details. Top quality product - they did my GT3 - so I know their work. But I can't be arsed to arrange a group buy.

POST 24Original post

I am deffo in. I have had all my GT cars done and it's essential. I dropped a b k on my 991 GT3 by not getting the back arches and cills done. After one track session the rear arches looked like a hand grenade had gone off in the immediate vicinity. Pictures to prove!!! (And I never left the track). Not sure I would bother with the roof, tailgate or doors but the rest deffo. I usually use venture shield but I am happy to support a group buy on a similar product. Some of the prices quoted look mighty high I usually pay about £600-£800 for the whole front, mirrors and rear arches. As ever the more identical vehicles an installer does the better they get at it so happy to use anybody that is doing a few identical cars. PM me if you need a financial commitment.

POST 25Original post

front PU needs taking off and the whole section wraping, cut parts to size is so 2010/lazy !

POST 26Original post

If you're interested in using XPEL or if your installer uses the DAP (Digital Access Port) to cut film on the plotters...we do have the available kit for the new GT4 Click link to view the kit: http://bit.ly/GT4kit

POST 27Original post

why not take the front PU off and wrap the film round so no edges , no plotters, no messy finish etc Serious question, top wrappers do this day in day out for 1/2 the price. Why is the film protection market doing cut outs ? Edited by PorscheGT4 on Sunday 12th July 23:08
