Suggestion

I have a velcro attachment in the floor of the car (shown in prior photo), and I specified the model and year correctly in my order, but they sent carpets that use a clip arrangement just as danieldolin described in his post from 3 years ago.

I do not use this setup as I just attached my own Velcro to the back of my new mat to use the factory setup, but if the Velcro ever fails I can fall back on this.

I am totally fascinated by how people use the original (or replacement) floor mats with that plastic spike.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

Hi. '07 CS here. Now on my 2nd set of sand beige floor mats. I find that the floormat on the driver's side "comes loose" and does not stay firmly where it belongs. I can feel where there is a hole in the floor upholstery where the floormat plastic spike is supposed to go. However, I cannot get the floormat to stay in position. What does everyone else do? How does everyone else handle this?

POST 2Original post

same problem. I just deal with it, but have been thinking about weather tech mats, which are a custom fit for the space. (although I'm not sure I like the look/feel).

POST 3Original post

FWIW, I just went ahead and ordered a set of WeatherTech mats for the new car - fit (the 981 floor pan) perfect; "tubed" design, so if you are using the car in bad weather etc., the mats going to hold all the wet mucky stuff in till you dump it out. On my 987, I tried keeping the original mats - they grew tired towards the end, and would have needed replacing or some substantial aftermarket re-velcro-ing modification.

POST 4Original post

MLPOR--just out of curiosity, why not the Porsche rubber mats? Just didn't want black? I am totally fascinated by how people use the original (or replacement) floor mats with that plastic spike. I don't see how it is actually useful over the duration.

POST 5Original post

I've got the black Porsche rubber mat on my drivers side w/ beige interior and really like the look (how I bought the car). Standard black mat on the passenger side now. Works pretty well for me and stays in place.

POST 6Original post

I am not sure if Cayman / Boxster are different here, but my 2007 Boxster has Velcro on the front corners of the floormat to hold it ink place. FWIIW, I purchased Lloyd's mat for my car (wanted red piping and PORSCHE letters on black mat) and they came with a fastening system that latches onto the bolt at the bottom of the seat rail, and the clips the floormat securely to that bolt so the mat can not slide forward. I do not use this setup as I just attached my own Velcro to the back of my new mat to use the factory setup, but if the Velcro ever fails I can fall back on this.

POST 7Original post

Hey danieldolin, I just ordered Lloyd mats for my 07 Cayman S , and they arrived with the same clip mechanism you described. But you mention that you have a bolt at the bottom of the seat rail, and I don't see any such bolt on my seat. I've attached a photo of the left front rail on the driver's seat. Is this what you have in your car? I'm not understanding how to attach these mats.

POST 8Original post

gadget guy - isn't yours the type for velcro attachment?

POST 9Original post

He's talking about the way the velcro mount connects to the floor. jaynyc- if the carpet fibers are stripped at the existing mounting point, I've found you can a small slit in the carpet near the existing mount screw to re-mount it.

POST 10Original post

Yes, exactly. I have a velcro attachment in the floor of the car (shown in prior photo), and I specified the model and year correctly in my order, but they sent carpets that use a clip arrangement just as danieldolin described in his post from 3 years ago. I'm trying to figure out if I'm just missing some obvious way that those clips can mount to my seat rails. I'm not seeing any attachment point on the seat rails that would work with these clips. Danieldolin said that he attached his own velcro, but I'm thinking that for the amount of money I just spent, that I should have received the correct velcro mounting and shouldn't have to customize this myself.
