Having set off on a search for an R I was getting nervous about pricing and as a Lotus dealer the old instinct was nagging away thinking prices were a bit high at 45k ish.

I have a little test route I take cars on as I'm always benchmarking stock I get in just to make sure my Elise is the right one to be hanging onto and it performed incredibly well on a mix of A road and challenging B roads.

The tighter suspension settings are a bit harsh for road use so the ability to retain the sport modes and return the dampers to road mode is much welcomed.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just picked up today from BubblesNW on here Having set off on a search for an R I was getting nervous about pricing and as a Lotus dealer the old instinct was nagging away thinking prices were a bit high at 45k ish. Anyway a well timed email from Darren and it threw a big spanner in the works with a Cayman S PDK with the following spec: LSD (priority for me) Carbon Brakes Active suspension (retrospectively realise how good this is) Switchable exhaust Buckets Spider Wheels So basically a Lux R (Flamesuit at the ready!) First impressions very very good. LSD is well balanced not aggressive like it can be in M cars. Nice noise, decent pace, good ride. Cant fault it. Looking forward to getting some more miles done unfortunately work commitments mean its no parked up for a few days. Edited by fridaypassion on Monday 22 June 20:06

Your experience matches my own. Quite a few Lotus owners I know like to say, "981 may be mid-engined but the handling can't touch a Lotus". I found the car to be the closest thing to a Lotus in terms of handling that I've ever driven, accompanied by the benefits of being engineered and built for global volume sales. Brilliant cars. Enjoy!

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Nothing much comes anywhere near Lotus cars for B road and track driving. I've been bored by some impressive cars through the years I can tell you but this ones doing better than most at this point! Oddly the nearest thing to a Lotus with 4 seats? Mazda RX8. Maybe an R26.R Megane (cheating due to lack of rear seats)

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Managed a quick clean and a couple of pics. Liking this one a lot!

POST 8Original post

Nice car and great colour - being a new Cayman owner too I am quite taken by them. Enjoy

POST 9Original post

That's lovely...the white and black wheels really suits the car, not many around with that spec.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ha! I knew someone would spot it straight away! No we have some stocking finance on it at the moment for my business so as part of the audit procedure I have to have a live advert up. If someone wanted it for that they could have it but otherwise the ad will be cleared as soon as our next big unit moves!

POST 12Original post

Very nice spec, now unplug the solenoid to hear the exhaust from tick over! Hmm very nice rumble at low revs Wish I still had mine now.

POST 13Original post

Very nice mate, just sold mine this afternoon! Get Michelin Super Sports on it asap if you haven't already. Way better than anything else this side of Cups. I'd also get the geo checked/sorted as well if I was taking over a new car. Even from the factory they can be a bit shonky and being a little more aggressive over the standard set up can transform the car. Edited by Asterix on Friday 3rd July 17:32

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Previous owner had the geo done recently Whats this solenoid then? I guess this will save having to switch the exhaust button on every time I get in the car?

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

You'll have to show me John I guess you need a ride in it as well

POST 17Original post

Loving the sportdesign steering wheel with the paddles! Don't think I've seen one on a 987 before!

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I would imagine that wasn't a cheap mod. It illuminates to indicate when in either of the sport modes too.

POST 19Original post

fridaypassion said: Previous owner had the geo done recently Whats this solenoid then? I guess this will save having to switch the exhaust button on every time I get in the car? Not only do you not have to press the button but it means the exhaust bypass valve are always open. Even at the low rpm where its restricted. You notice on start up the valves are open and you get a nice thrum, then the valves close until you go past 3k rpm from memory. I wish I still had mine just thinking about it

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It seems a bit of an omission not to be able to program the key to hold your driving settings. I always drive it in sport with dampers off and exhaust on so have to push 3 buttons every time. Very first world problem I know

I always drive it in sport with dampers off and exhaust on so have to push 3 buttons every time. Very first world problem I know Pressing the sport button in my 987.1 activates the PASM, Chrono and PSE in one go. I then usually just press the PASM to dial in'soft' mode for road use.

POST 22 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thats what I'm doing every time. Should be key programmable IMO seems a pretty easy thing to incorporate.

POST 23Original post

My man-maths makes that two buttons not three. I agree though it should be something that can be programmed into the key or ECU.

POST 24 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

On mine you pres Soprt, then turn the dampers off then have to switch the exhaust on. I'm almost sure thats 3

POST 25Original post

I tend to press PSM off every time I get in also.

POST 26Original post

That's where your's differs to mine then. The exhaust, chrono and pasm all come on together when I press the sport button in mine. These first world problems are so taxing!! Edited by Trev450 on Saturday 11th July 09:43

Cheers Been for a bit of a blat today I've not really done much other than pootling about to work and back before. Been out on my extended test route comprising of some really challenging B roads. Sport + with normal dampers its very impressive! Very quick an composed. Noted the slight additional slip that Sport + allows with PSM on too.
