Yes, searched and found a thread how to take off the door card and swap out plastic parts to fix the issue where the inner door handle doesn't go all the way back in. Going to swap out parts this weekend
I wanted confirmation of 2 things.
First- should battery be disconnected? Just thinking of side airbags when pulling off door panels. Never pulled one apart with side airbags.
Second - if #1 is true , are there any things to remember when reconnect? Thinking radio reset codes or what's a complaint of the locking mechanism having an issue.
Any other tips or tricks are appreciated
Always a good idea to disconnect the battery when working around airbags.
When you reconnect, it might take the car a few miles to reset everything, but it should all be good then. You might have to reset the window limits yourself, and you might lose your radio station presets.
All that stuff that is easily redone. I was more worried about unforeseen things. Had a car that needed a radio code entered with a battery disconnect. Code was available from the dealer for fee and was said it was a security item if someone stole the radio. I told them they're trying to steal $20 from me.

I have never heard of anyone needing a radio code after disconnecting the battery in a
Cayman
. It's only needed if you move the radio to another car.
Wasn't a
Cayman
. Was another car

If all you want to do is remove the outer door panel - the article here covers it well.
The biggest tips:
1. Door panel paint is very delicate and can chip / peel easily. So set the panel down somewhere soft.
2. Don't break the mounting tabs of the plastic trim pieces or mar any trim pieces (kinda unavoidable really)
3. Those door panel clips can be damaged beyond reuse - so you might want to have a dealer nearby at the ready
Thanks for the tips. I'm torn as part of me wants to say eff-it and pay the dealer. Then I can complain when the stupid clips are broken. But the other part of me is too cheap and wants parts for the car.
I did, however, score these tools at harbor freight for $6 tonight.
Defn disconnect the battery whenever working with airbags (incl seats).
DO NOT LOCK THE HOOD AFTER DISCONNECTING THE BATTERY. Obvious, but needs to be stated. Leave the hood open, put an old towel over the latch opening in the body, or click the lock closed in the hood so it won't latch if the hood comes down. Whatever it takes to keep the hood from latching when the battery is disconnected.
If you just bought the black plastic / spring mechanism, you may have to do some drilling to make it work.
Porsche
changed the failed original design with the new design, which is the good news. The bad news is you should also buy the cable that goes into it and over to the latch. It is possible to use the existing cable but you'll need to drill a mounting hole in the new mechanism to attach the cable. This works but isn't as good as new.
I've found some videos of the procedure as well as some picture walk throughs. In some it appears that there's different parts being replaced. I had read you can just swap drive/passenger side mechanism and it works fine.
