Hi All,
My 2006
Boxster S
3.2 Tiptronic is presenting the following conditions & i was hoping some of you more experienced or anyone who has had similar issues could weight in with the below;
Scenario 1)
When approaching the on ramp onto the freeway in 5th gear doing approx 60kph and then flooring the car, the 2nd gear light indicator on the dash is lit up almost instantly then there is a slight delay when the car actually gears down into 2nd gear and then another delay til when the car actually begins to pull hard.
So from the dash indicating 2nd gear to car pulling hard is probably a 2 second delay, this cant be normal right? (all the above is done in auto mode)
Scenario 2)
After going around a corner (sometimes) or when applying 40% throttle the car will shudder/jerk hesitate when shifting from 4th>5th sometimes from 3rd>4th. The shudder/jerking motion isnt very intense but is definitely felt & feels like there is hesitation in acceleration.
My thoughts are either some sort of bush or transmission mount, perhaps air flow meter or transmission slip?
Additional information;
-However when flooring the car from a complete standstill there is no jerking or shuddering just a nice and steady pull all the way to redline.
-The trans filter and oil change was done 2-3 months ago 3.5 liters was changed and done by a
Porsche
specialist.
-Car has EVOMs air filter, stock
exhaust
but decat
headers
Any information on the above would be greatly appreciated as if we suspect its a transmission about to fail i think it would be time to resell the vehicle and purchase another.
Regards,
RP
Hi Guys,
Any thoughts on the above? Would really love to hear some feedback... thanks
Shot in the dark - on the Wheeler Dealer
Boxster
episode, Edd filled the trans twice. He filled it the first time after a trans drain / service, warmed it up to proper temp, then filled it again. It took a fair amt of fluid on the 2nd fill. Maybe yours is low and needs to be topped off (ie, only filled once)? Your symptoms sound like low fluid.
Is that the same episode where the original owner thought he needed either serious transmission work or a new tranny? The transmission was doing similar to what was described by Racepace. Ed, cleaned out the pan, screen/ filter and loaded new fluid, and all was well. Could be something simple but you are under the honesty of the mechanic (or dealer) you have look at it.
Yes.
I've updated my 1st post to be more specific. And I'm not questioning the honesty of OP's mechanic, just suggesting maybe he did a quickie job and didn't bother to check fill level after initial fill.
Second that. In cases like this in general the first thing to check is the condition, the level and the correct type of AT fluid. This has nothing to do with the "
Porsche
specialist" you mention in the OP. We all and even the best mechanics sometime make mistakes.
sometimes I wish I had access to someone like Ed....
there seems to be some inconsistent info on the amount of fluid that the transmission needs. 3.5 litres does sound like too little. good place to start.

Wheeler dealers was an awesome show, still on?
Yep, Wed nights on Velocity. They just finished this yr's season last Wed, but Velocity still shows repeats on Wed & Mon (in fact, on tonight).
Unfortunately there's a $2 charge to watch new episodes on YT. Older shows are still free. Here's the
Boxster
episode - the trans fill portion is at 15:10.
After watching the video again, looks like it was a multiple fill situation:
1. fill after drain / service.
2. fill after letting it warm up.
3. fill after running trans thru all the gears.
OP might want to start by warming up his car, jumping in at #2, and proceeding with the 2 fills.
Hey guys,
Sorry for the late reply. Took the car down to Weltmeister in Cremorne where they did 2 flushes and the jerking hesitation seems to have improved. I think its still there but not as noticeable...
Would a new mass air sensor do the trick?
