Can't help you with your Conti's, but if you get any appreciable snow and you want to drive in it, I would strongly recommend snow tires over All-Seasons.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I'm considering putting ContiSport 850 tyres on a spare set of 17" alloys for my 2.7 Cayman. They're not N - Rated but they're all I can get without a long wait for delivery. Any views or advice would be welcome as I've not run winter tyres on any car before. Thanks

POST 2Original post

Winter tires are awful, even the really good ones won't grip but 0.8 gees or so and with all that siping, they start squealing like mad at embarrassingly low slip angles. A Porsche on snow tires feels like you're driving a prius. Don't ever live somewhere you need to run snow tires, it ruins the car lol Seriously, N rating is just marketing, and any snow tire will be two or three orders of magnitude better in the snow than summer tires. Treat them just like you would any other tire, just don't expect much from them if you start driving spirited in the dry/warm. Or the snow, I guess, for that matter; Porsches in the snow still handle like, well, anything else in the snow.

POST 3Original post

Can't help you with your Conti's, but if you get any appreciable snow and you want to drive in it, I would strongly recommend snow tires over All-Seasons. Summer performance tires aren't even in the equation. If you don't want to use winter tires, don't drive in winter, period. If the previous sunny climate poster had ever driven in snow he would know that not all cars drive in the white stuff equally well. The Cayman is actually excellent provided the snow isn't so deep that you plow. You obviously cannot drive like you do in the summer, but there is tons of fun to be had, especially if you turn off the traction nanny and let the back end move a bit. Its a great way to learn to control your car in a slide without having to go fast enough to break traction on those sticky summer tires. Just make sure that there are no hidden obstacles or other vehicles in your path.

POST 4Original post

Thanks for the advice. We don't get much snow, but we do get low temperatures, below 7deg C, and wet roads. The thought of driving a Prius makes me feel sick!
