probably 2-3 coats (again depending on the paint and the type of foam pads used orange/yellow?) Take your time and don't be afraid to apply another coat!!

another fyi for anyone after I did the recommended 3 step meguires it was great but when I used the spray on wax to maintain it, it didn't like the other wax and gave bad results, I guess they aren't compatible FYI.

So after some research it seems the best way to do it for my 99 black c2 is to dawn it, clay with quick detail or other lubricant, dawn, use 3m swirl mark remover or if deeper, finesse 2.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So after some research it seems the best way to do it for my 99 black c2 is to dawn it, clay with quick detail or other lubricant, dawn, use 3m swirl mark remover or if deeper, finesse 2. then use zaino z5, z6, then a couple coats of z2. This sounds good to me, but the question is whether it will make any difference to apply by hand or random orbital, which I might buy. How do klasse all in one, pinnacle souvergn, and p21s work in comparison to zaino, and more specifically which step are they for? polish or wax, or swirl removal? Thanks. I want to do it once like crazy right and then just maintain it. What would also be a good maintenence wax afterwards every 2 months or so? Also how does meguires scratch x compare to finesse 2 or 3m swirl mark removal in terms of abrasive ranking? another fyi for anyone after I did the recommended 3 step meguires it was great but when I used the spray on wax to maintain it, it didn't like the other wax and gave bad results, I guess they aren't compatible FYI. Thanks everyone! Sean
Zaino vs. Klasse with a carnauba topper is a matter of preference. The Zaino leaves a high shine, plastic-like look and the Klasse w/carnauba leaves a shiny, deep wet look.
I use Klasse--The AIO is a cleaner/polish, and the SG is a sealent glaze--with Pinnacle Souveran as my carnauba wax. I've heard good things about the P21s, it's supposed to be a good budget carnauba. You can reapply the Souveran or P21s as needed.
I do everything by hand. If you choose to go the orbital route practice on someone else's car first
For more info check a recent post on the 911 board about swirl removal on a black car and the Autopia site is very informative.
well I did go through that forum, that's where I came up with the proper steps and identified which to use at what step etc. I just mainly wanted to know if it would be better to substitute p21s or pinnacle sovern in on one of the steps or whatever, and or if they are even compatible, as I noted that I had issues with a maintenece meguires spray wax not being compatible with maguires three step. p21s seems to give a deeper shine and with black that seems preferrable, but is that the sealer wax to be substituted for z2 then? What about the pinnacle sovergn? thanks. again. Sean

It seems to me as the best way to do it as I have a black 99 996, is to dawn it twice, clay it with quick detail or whatever lube you use, then use pre wax cleaner maguires is what I use, then 3m smr, then here comes the question of polish/glaze/sealer? I would assume this is where zaino z6 comes in? any other better polishes and or sealors at this stage? after this then a quick detail spray with carnuba preffered, and then pinnacle soverign, zaino z2, or p21s? I am thinking p21s from what I hear. Let me know what the final steps should be. Also I am going to get a pc, what speeds should I use at each step? I read 750-1000 on the smr, but what on the removal? and what on the application and removal of the polish and wax? Thanks. I am a nubie but have done maguires three step cleaner /polish /gold class and the results were good but I want the best! Tell me what polish, and wax to go with on my clearcoat black 996, something I can get at the store or on of the manufactures listed above prefferably i.e. zaino, pinnacle, p21s, maguires, or 3m. Thanks feel free to email me with tips and or help.
Thanks,
Sean
Here is what I did to my Ocean Blue C2.
Dawn wash
Clay
3M SMR, I put this on with a orbital buffer setting 4-5
Klasse All in One
Pinacle Sovergn
I switched to the above combo after using Zaino. The Zaino is very reflective but lacks the depth that I wanted.
nice that is what I wanted to hear! klasse polish is deaper? and you like pinacle sovergn to p21s? or is p21s the polish that would replace the klasse? Thanks. I want to get as deep and mirror like finish as possible. Thanks.
Souveran and P21s are both carnauba waxes, you pick one or the other to use as a top coat over the Klasse (AIO, SG)
If you go with the Zaino you stick with only the Zaino products.

I use the Klasse AIO and SG. Make sure and follow the instructions!! Sometimes a haze will develop if you are not careful... or you do not allow the AIO to cure long enough prior to applying SG. A few SG coats and then 2-3 coats of Pinnacle should be all you need to get depth and shine.
I have used P21s a few times (looks good; but doesn't last). However, I like the liquid Sovereign better... because I use the PC. Not sure how long it lasts; it's so easy to apply and take off that I apply a coat every other wash. It also doesn't leave white residue on rubber trim or the sunroof surround (if applicable).
Just remember that prior to applying the Klasse and wax products.... you must put the time into polishing the vehicle! That means removing as many swirls and light scratches as possible. The products mentioned above will not remove anything; only protect and add depth/shine.
To remove Swirls or light scratches a few coats of Finesse it II (depending on the paint), followed by 3m SMR... probably 2-3 coats (again depending on the paint and the type of foam pads used orange/yellow?) Take your time and don't be afraid to apply another coat!!
Good Luck
Elias
klasse aoi is a polish right? What is sg? soverign? what about a sealer between polish and wax? Thanks. I plan on dawning it twice, then clay, then prob a cleaner wax the smr then another polisher/filler/lock, then wax. What do I use after the smr the aio then the wax? What speeds do you use to apply polish and wax and to remove? I plan on getting the pc and then use the orange and red pads and mf bonnets for removal followed by mf wipes. Is there a cheaper or better place to get them other than groits? thanks. Sean
AIO is not a pure polish per se, it is an acrylic sealant with mild cleaning properties. SG is Klasse Sealant Glaze which is usually used to top AIO. The more layers of SG the deeper the shine. Just be sure to let each coat sure properly. Most people who use Klasse like to top it with a carnauba - Pinnacle Paste Glaz, Pinnacle Souveran, P21S, S100, etc. to give it more of a wet look. Why are you planning on washing the car with dawn twice? The purpose of using dawn is to strip off any residual wax off of your car. If you want wash the car with dawn once to remove any old wax, while you are doing the dawn wash you could also clay your car at the same time - it would save you an extra step. Work on small areas at a time. Depending on how bad the swirls are, always start with the least aggressive pad/product combination and work your way down the abrasiveness scale until you achieve the desired result. I have been a member of autopia.org for over 2 years and have learned a ton. That is where you want to do a SEARCH - there is a great deal of information out there. Proper paint preparation is the key to a great detail. where to buy these finesse thing?
also zaino does not leave the plastic shine as someone stated earlier.
I use it all the time.
I would like to use other wax to see the difference though...
p21s possibly.

Trust me on the process I stated above... you should be happy with the results. I switched to that process after a year of Zaino and am very happy with the results so far.
IMO, Griots is pretty expensive. I purchase my supplies from Classic Motoring Accesories... pretty much the same as Proper Auto Care. They also have some good detailing tips.
