Looking for a
battery
recommendation for 12’
Cayman
R….considering Optima, curious if anyone has any experience with one for this application….and does it fit easily in OEM tray using existing
battery
tie downs. Any other recommendations are certainly welcome too…
Thx in advance

Love to know how you're considering an Optima, I have never found one for the
987.2
. I'm going to put in another Interstate from Costco, even though they were bought by exide.
I haven’t done any research yet, I’ve just had great success with them from 6volt for my 356 to other applications…so I assumed there would be an option for the
987.2
…
Nope.... Not last time I looked, I don't really understand why. As for the rest most are either Exide, east penn makes
duracell
, in short a few makers and lots of labels, like the old VCR days.
thx for the help…I think dealers are putting in
Interstate Batteries
, so I guess that’s a safe bet. Of course here in Naples Fl the dealer wanted $379 for an
Interstate battery
, and nearly $300 for installation…and there’s no programming required!
Haha color me shocked! It's a
987.2
. One great thing about our cars? You just change the
battery
, you don't have to worry about keeping a charge on the car system while you swap, just like you said, still, if possible it's not a bad idea. Swapping batteries will clear the computer data needed for an emissions test for a period of time, other than that it's
plug
and play. Costco carries interstate, so do a lot of other places, hard pass on the dealer. Even if my car needed programming, I'd buy a device to hold charge to the car, it still has to be cheaper and you can reuse it.
Yea I’m with you…my guess is the dealers heads in the sand and they didn’t realize for years Advance and most auto parts stores will install for free….thx again for the guidance

Dealer's charge like criminals, why? Because people fall into their lies. My friend's mom had a
Cayman
in 2005. The dealer was hitting her for $300 an oil change (430 in today's dollars) . She asked them about it and they said it's because it's a tougher job on a
Porsche
. The same underhanded tactic they use on a lot of stuff. I have heard multiple times "
Brembo brakes
are way harder than other disc systems to replace". Um, no, actually they are like taking apart mechanical art, a pleasure to service. I have a good indy wrench for my Ford and one chosen for the
Porsche
too. It used to make my dad so mad, the lies. Like when
Firestone
told me the tie rods on my company car have nothing to do with the steering, what a world! Once on another blog a guy told me he paid 4K for brake service on his
986
. New calipers? No rotors and pads silly. Hey bring it to Boris, I'll do the job for 1,500 labor you supply the parts! hahaha
And it just seems to be getting progressively more outrageous….a good, trustworthy independent shop is always the best alternative…I’m fortunate to have a couple good ones here in Naples, and DC…
I replaced the
battery
in my
987.2
with an Interstate, same size and spec. Plugged in my
battery
charger to maintain the presets. Took about 20 minutes to complete.
