Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

Trying to remove the canister temporarily, but am unable to figure out how to disconnect the two fittings / hoses on its bottom. Photo attached. The fitting on the left has a white section on it that you'd think might be an unlatch button, but does not seem to do that. Anyone know how to get these two fittings to detach? Kevin

POST 2Original post

Did you ever figure this out? I'm in the same boat

POST 3Original post

Yes, per instructions someone posted on the Cayman Register if memory serves: https://caymanregister.org/showthread.php?t=33795 . Basically, through, the two SAE EFI Quick Connects on the bottom need to be released by depressing the colored lock ring. On my car, despite being the same size, the design of the fitting was different at the fuel tank and at the carbon canister. At the fuel tank, the fitting needed to be pressed on two sides. At the carbon canister, on one side. I think that squirting a little Wurth HHS into the fitting helped with getting it to release, it was not easy.

Thanks, I may try again but have pretty much given up. I cut a slit in the old carpet behind the canister to slip it out and will likely do that on the new carpet when I reinstall. I doubt it will show at all and my car is modified anyway.

POST 5Original post

I cut the old carpet out. I had pretty much given up but went out today and tried again and got it right away. i eventually got it off. For future reference, do the smaller one on passenger side first. You can see the button with a flashlight. If the windshield is 12:00, the button is at around 7:00. The larger one (that you have to do last) has it's release button at around 10:00, so cannot see it and have to feel around the back. Hopefully it will go on fairly easily. Waiting for my new carpet to arrive.

POST 6Original post

Responding in part to bookmark this but also to ask -- what was the reason you guys were messing with the carbon canister? Did you have issues filling up fuel by any chance?

POST 7Original post

I had to change out frunk carpeting due to mouse nest soiling of it. Can't get carpeting out without removing carbon canister.

POST 8Original post

You are right - Removing those 2 connectors on the base of the canister is a bloody nightmare. I have spent hours trying to release the smaller connector, but with no success. Do you think that it is possible to access those connectors from under the car (on stands + removing the wheel and fender cover)? I would be able to apply more force with my hands with a "grip pull from below" rather that a "flick push from above". Would love to chat with the engineer who designed this in the first place.

POST 9Original post

Take a break. Read my post about how I did it. Do some more web searches. Go back and try again. You'll get it eventually.

POST 10Original post

Thanks for the encouragement. I did finally manage to get the cannister off. Phew!

POST 11Original post

Finally completed the task and the P2402 code (Evaporative Emission System Leak Detection Pump Control Circuit High) has not returned. I using the lower cost pump that I heard about from another Planet-9 thread. This was the Bosch part W0133-3591723 . ( W0133-3591723 | Partsgeek.com ). Additional info - I noticed that the new part has Bosch 0 261 222 018 stamped on it. However, the old part that I removed has Bosch 0 261 222 021 stamped on it. The parts are a slightly different shape and size, but the connector and mounting points were the same. It works correctly so I assume that this is just a superseded part. BTW - I have a 2008 Cayman S. Thanks for your help.
