Hi all,
Was doing an oil change on my 2005
Boxster S
when I noticed a small stain that seems to be coming from the
exhaust
port of Cylinder 6. Given the small size I didn’t investigate it further but the more I think about it the more I’m lending credence to the idea it might be an
exhaust
leak.
Has anyone else had leaks from only one cylinder? Does it look like this? Or is this something more benign?
Thanks for all your help!
To me it doesn't look like an
exhaust
leak, my guess is that something above that is seeping down to that spot.
Exhaust
leaks don't necessarily leave stains like that. You would be able to hear it if the header wasn't sealing to the cylinder head.
Every
exhaust
leak I ever experienced, especially in that spot, could be easily heard.
I am with the rest
1- you would hear it
2- leak /spill from above, looks like oil based product
Thanks for all the replies fellas. Good to know it's not anything to add to the worry list
My '05 BS had an oil leak from the
exhaust
manifold gasket that turned out to be from worn valve guides.

I would wipe the area clean with a solvent and then start to monitor your oil use. If this is due to the valve seal, others most likely have some oil seapage. Do you have blue smoke on your daily start up? How many miles on your
Boxster
?
Sorry for the late reply, P9 doesn’t like to send me notifications for some reason.
I check my oil dipstick near daily and it hasn’t varied since my last oil change (top bar). No blue smoke on startup except on hot days when I park inclined backwards.
My BS is at ~130000 miles.
I’ll monitor the
headers
for signs of big leaks and I appreciate you gents bringing up the valve header issue but I don’t see any other evidence to support that on my vehicle. I’ll keep an eye out for sure.
