After installing my
Numeric shifter
, I thought the thing was such an attractive piece that it seemed a damn shame to cover it up. Also, my shift boot is looking a little worn, so I'm toying with the idea of making a trim piece to replace the shift boot which allows some of the
Numeric shifter
to show through. This is, of course, a very rough first prototype. The fitment needs to be adjusted and I'm going to slim it down some, then sand, fill, paint, etc. I'm repainting a lot of the trim and the center console black to match the stock exterior color, this piece would be black, too. Any thoughts on ways to make it better? The biggest struggle I think is going to be finding a shift knob that works well. The rectangular rod is going to make it look off, I think. Unfortunately, the passenger is the only one who will get to see the
Numeric
logo.
I think if you leave it it open like that, you are going to have much more noise in the cabin.
Cool idea though.
I put this on the
986
and an air-weight MOMO knob but that did require modification to the lever, I lowered it a little since I was mutilating it anyway. The price on this makes me lol, my grandfather's made shoes from scratch to barely feed my parents. Imagine custom made shoes today? Or a Sicilian leather worker cranking these out with custom stich colors at these prices!

It's unconventional, but it will certainly make your car unique. It won't add significant noise to the cabin, but it will create an opening for things to fall into, potentially jamming the shifter linkage.

Yeah, I would be concerned with things falling in. Maybe put a lexan cover over the top with a gate on it? Heck, if you make the entire thing out of lexan, it would let more light in to see it. Or, you could get fancy and throw in some LEDs underneath, haha. All depends on how "blingy" you want to get, and your tastes of course.
I do like the idea from a visual perspective... and would be curious about the noise, if any... would love to hear what you find.
Actually that wouldn't be an issue for me, my car is purposely stark, there's nothing in mine to fall anywhere, insurance cards and a small notebook in the glovebox that's it. Coffee? Pull over and drink it or have one in the Ford, both hands on the wheel in the rocket ship. You all needed

training, glove box? Do you people understand the cost of including one of those?
I did consider the possibility of stuff falling in, but I don't usually have a lot of stuff in my vehicles. Most likely scenario would be dropping my phone, but it's too big to fit. Otherwise it would just be balled up receipts that I would need to fish out.
Just in case anyone was curious. This is probably the final design concept. It still needs some finishing before final paint, but this is basically it. Also, the shift knob may change. This is just a $15
Amazon
special that I bought so I wouldn't feel bad about drilling it out and screwing it up. I kind of like the design of the knob, but the finish is garbage. I wasn't sure about the trim piece at first, but the closer it gets to being done, and the more I look at it in the car, the more I'm liking it. But it could also be that as I progress on this thing, I'm also getting the interior put back together, so maybe I just like the look of a more complete interior.
Either way, I'm committed at this point. So I'm going to finish it and see how dirty it gets in there once I start driving.
