As for savings if done at same time, yes, there will be a slight reduction for Motec Plus One at the same time, but don't hold your breath as the price does not take in to account engine condition, so replacing worn guides or tired rings will be extra.

I will be arranging to re test the car later in the year to try out a couple of ideas on the exhaust system, and if this proves fruitful a further revised throttle body is next on the list.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Well I, for one, can't wait to feel the same type of power from my own beastie. Roll on April! >> Edited by peter_964rs on Tuesday 18th March 08:50

POST 2Original post

Sounds fantastic 9M As a moderator I'm sure I speak for Ted when I say that this post isn't off topic, isn't too commercial and is of relevance to a number of readers here Shame I've got rid of the Baron to fund an Ultima and a house purchase

POST 3Original post

Pah, a measly 339bhp. Stop mucking around with these beetles 9M and get back to work on the 968. (Oh my God, I'm turning into Thom) Are we gonna hit 350 today with a flatter torque curve ?

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

We only finished testing last night at 20:15, give me a break... pass me that brush! Anyway, for those interested I have posted the Plus One results onto our site. Meanwhile fear not good Herman, the 968 mit Kompressor is being husstled through its paces today, I'm writing this on my lunch hour (at 3.00!), and all will be revelled shortly. The sad thing is that we now have a relatively simple 340bhp RS package with 309 at the wheels and I am already thinking of what comes next. I will be arranging to re test the car later in the year to try out a couple of ideas on the exhaust system, and if this proves fruitful a further revised throttle body is next on the list. I truly am a devoted petrolhead.

POST 5Original post

310 bhp at the wheels has definatley got my attention. I notice that the motec needs remapping for the plus one upgrade. If motec is being fitted at the same time as plus one I pressume there will be some discount ( since part of the cost of the motec is the time spent mapping on he dyno which is replicated in the plus one) If you are thinking of an exhaust system is there any chance of a quieter version. I had a reading of 104db (cat-bypass only)on Sat and if the 340bhp is the one I saw on Mon then thats a bit louder again. Sounds great but does limit trackdays to "noisey" tracks.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Tony, You should know me better by now, if Tony wants quiet, Tony gets quiet, simple. As for savings if done at same time, yes, there will be a slight reduction for Motec Plus One at the same time, but don't hold your breath as the price does not take in to account engine condition, so replacing worn guides or tired rings will be extra. Oh, and there is now a small waiting list, took the first order for a complete MPO package after an astute RS customer realised that we could deliver supercharger performance without actually fitting a supercharger. We now have his unfitted supercharger kit available ex-stock if anyone is interested.

POST 7Original post

Ninemeister, I have read before that the Motec doesn't work too well with the 993 RS. Do you agree with this? If this is true, what is the reason for it? It strikes me that people tend to go with superchargers on their 993 RS's instead.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Johnny, As I have posted before, the poor 993RS is lumbered with the worst design of intake port since Porsche began building engines with 6 cylinders, so unless you are prepared to junk the heads and the Variocram you will make nominal gains with Motec. We have seen 325bhp & 392Nm, but the standard engine management with chip will give up to 317, so it works but not as good as the 964. Obviously you have read the article in GT Purely Porsche (Jan 03), in my view the blower overcomes all the port design inefficiencies to shove as much air in as the engine needs irrespective of the design, hence the 370bhp bolt-on performance.

POST 10Original post

Yo Colin, hope Oulton was fun. Shortly after I put the phone down to you on Friday I'd made my decision. No real need for the weekend to ponder! So on the question of whether or not to be your second "plus 1" customer, like the Man From Del Monte I say "yes!". I'll ring on Monday to confim. Looking forward to the horsepower and a nicely reconditioned engine. Cheers Peter >> Edited by peter_964rs on Saturday 22 March 23:10

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

If I were you Peter, I could not have resisted it either. You are definitely doing the right thing if the motor is tired, but we will dyno it before we start anyway. The good news is that Age's RS mit the 9m 3.8 race engine is still at 9m, so I will take you out in it to give you a flavour of what is to come. I don't suppose you will be interested that I did a little Motec work on Boydy's RS+1 at Oulton on Saturday, and on the last session we made a small breakthrough after which Ray seemed to think that the car was significantly faster. I like it when a plan comes together.

POST 12Original post

So, what news on the breakthrough.. can you share it? You can understand my interest!

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Technical detail affecting full load combustion efficiency. No names, no pack drill.

POST 14Original post

What you really mean is that Boydy had sobered up by 3.00pm, I know I was drinking with him on the Fri. Mike ( girly 3,2 Cab Oulton)

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

....and am I glad I declined an invitation to a light night at the chinese. You guys don't know when to stop lifting the right arm. One thing's for sure, I'm not socialising the night before Knockhill, but I will do the night after! There may be some truth in what you say Mike, all I know is that the car had enough power to cause Boydy more than the odd touch of O.S. braking after arriving at bends unexpectedly quickly!

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ted, if this is OT then delete it, but I thought everyone would like an update on our 964RS developments. We have just come off the rollers tonight with a 964RS that was converted to Motec some time ago. We had it apart to sort out the top end, and at the same time I gas-flowed the heads and fitted our new cams, racing valve springs & titanium retainers. Well, after a few runs on the dyno we achieved 309bhp at the wheels, 338.7bhp flywheel at 5950rpm and 311.9lbft/423Nm at 4940rpm. Not bad for starters, eh? Just to clarify the spec, this is with standard crank, rods, pistons, heads (apart from porting), valves, cam followers, intake manifolds & heat exchangers. The only other tuning items are cat bypass, cup pipe, 9m Motec system, injectors, bored throttle body & K&N filter on 9m intake pipe. We will be looking at the exhaust and intake next to achieve 360bhp bolt-on from the stock 3.6 capacity, but as it stands it is another reason why the 964RS is unbeatable for value. At this level it has 290bhp per tonne, and if the spec of the new GT3 at 380bhp & 1350kg is correct, the Plus One RS has a 10bhp/tonne advantage. The car will be at Oulton Park on 22nd, you must come and see it in action, I for one can't wait!
