Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

So you keep it in auto mode but use the switches to change up and down when you want?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

im new here and need some advice. Sorry if im stoopid :?:
i am getting my 911 996 tiptronic 2000 model on thursday and as its mid term through my
insurance
policy and i have a couple of fault claims its gonna pay me to stick with Elephant.com now i know they are not porsche specialists but am i going mad?
they tell me that all 996,s of this year that are auto are tiptronic S not just tiptronic.
what might the S signify, as i just took the car to be a tiptronic and now they seem to be wanting 100quid more than i was initially quoted?
As per what Richard said below... got confused on my original reply with the transmission upgrade option in the later 996's... must be the lack of car for the past 4 weeks at the OPC thats making me think silly...
The original Tiptronic on 964 and 993 didn't have steering wheel switches at all. Tiptronic S was introduced as an option on the 993 with the addition of the steering wheel controls, and became standard in 1995. It was standard on all 996 Tips.
Thanks for the reply, it makes sense and also tells me summat else i didnt know about the controls, i.e. my family car a vovlo has tiptronic but all controlled at the stick, so porsche did a similar thing then before 2000?
BTW do peeps use the steering wheel controls much or are they townies like me who tend to sit there and let the car do it all
Hello Davo,
So you keep it in auto mode but use the switches to change up and down when you want? is this how it works? sorry i'm totally green but looking forward to learning, my driving is a total mix of town and big roads. thats why i went for a low mileage tiptronic cos i use my car daily and do cover quite a few miles.
I know it's not a major difference but i also hear the tiptronic is a bit more fuel efficient than the manual 4? do you know this?
I see you are a fellow cyclist too? i'm a keen road bike tester, the shed is full but none of this off road stuff
