Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I had the same and it turned out to be the rotary control switch.
Leading evidence: 'rotary control switch' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Half an hour ago switched Litronic headlights on but nothing happened, sidelights work etc, but after switching on and off about ten times started to flicker a bit then suddenly came on good as ever?
Any thoughts would be much appreciated
I had the same and it turned out to be the rotary control switch. Diagnosed it by turning on and then wiggling the switch and the lights came on.
Wasn't too much
Wierd - mine come on straight away sometimes, but other times may take a minute or two. I thought they were light sensative, so wouldn't come on if it was too light?
Googled these from an American forum, is the rotary control switch & headlight switch the same thing?

Looks like I'm wrong - the instrument lights seem to fail first on normal headlights when you start getting switch problems. Looks like it hits Litronics differently.
Switch is about £65 + Vat + labour. Mine went wonky in December.
I was thinking I would have a go at doing this myself, now think I could mess something up looking at the pics bits all over the place! Is it better to get the part and let an auto electrician do it, or drive it to JZM or Porsche dealership to let them do it? :dont know:
Get estimates from the places you mention.
Even call a couple of OPCs out of your area, they do vary. Some actually want you custom. You don't need to go to them, you just need to name drop with your local OPC (even try the indy prices) and they get surprisingly competitive!
Then when you have estimates pop them into this handy formula:
x = {(whole job warranteed) - parts + (skin removed from hands) + (new [insert inadvertantly broken part]) + (free coffee) + (free magazine) - (I can't afford that new [insert desirable Porsche] model) + (nice receptionist)} * (disappointment and desolation when still knackered 'cos you left this [fill in relevant clip, screw, conection etc] off before putting it all back together again) / {(skill to do job)*(enjoyment of doing job)}
if x is greater than 1, outsource
if x is less than 1, DIY!
PS - none of this is meant to put you off DIYing it.
Think of it a bonding session with your P&J.
Too many things to list, but here are some external shots of my DIYing
GT4, thanks for the tips & formula - coffee + mag + receptionist, sounds good!
But here's a funny thing, tonight on a trip out I tried switching the lights on before starting the engine and there ok, before I switched them on after starting the engine weird? I'll monitor it for a bit and see what occurs.
Cheers George
Must be something else - as the instrument lights always come on as soon as the sidelights are on. I'll try flicking to full beam to see if that helps them on.
Headlights don't work at all now even after switching on and off etc, but all other lights do even full beam and fogs etc, rang up one indie + two OPC's today, They all say to leave the car with them for the day to do tests because it might not be the switch which sounds expensive, would it be a better option to get the part and get an auto-electrician to fit it? He's been recommended by a friend? :?:
