Checked all the important rubber bushings, everything is was in great shape aside from the front sway bar bushings.
Leading evidence: 'Check important rubber bushings' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'head gasket' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). Changed the oil 2 times after the work was completed with Mobil 1 Euro 0w40, and finally once more at 110,430 miles to Motul 5W40.

I cleared my codes with Durametic, then replaced the seat belt receiver, but still have the air bag light on with code 31 saying passenger ignition error.

Don't get me wrong - I don't mind paying for work performed, and everyone needs to make a buck (hell, isn't that why they're in business to begin with ??)...but, I'd just as soon have a fellow driver do a quick scan and reset before I take it in and drop another hundred bucks, especially if this is an isolated incident that was caused by the phantom-wiring-nasties hiding in my car.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I remember when I got my state safety and emissions inspection done at the local PCar dealer, the same thing happened and they suggested it was something like that and fixed it.
Hey guys, got an airbag failure light popping up on the 03 C4S. I think what happened is when my buddy moved the seat up on the passenger seat so we could fitr his wife in the back it either disengaged the airbag or unhooked some airbag sensor on the seatbelt. I remember when I got my state safety and emissions inspection done at the local PCar dealer, the same thing happened and they suggested it was something like that and fixed it.
Anyone know how to reset this sensor or the fix? Thanks.

Looks like its time to sell another one! Originally purchased this car as a project for the significant other and myself while I look for an M3 without a sunroof (so I actually fit), then she made the mistake of driving Mk7 GTI with the performance package. Needless to say, a 2016 model should be arriving in just under two months

Only current engine "performance" modification is the new Stromung exhaust, nothing else has been touched.
As I often do I spent a silly amount of money and time on preventative maintenance and cleaning over the summer. It began when I bought the car: it had an extremely minor head gasket leak that would pressurize the cooling system on long drives. This was not fun to diagnose, the shop who did a PPI missed it, and after getting it home I had it pressure tested and surprise, it tested fine. The issue persisted and I found a thread noting it was likely the head gasket so I decided it was worth the few days of work to check. Headwerks Specialty Machine recommended a basic rebuild of the head while it was being resurfaced as it was already out of the car and disassembled. This included lifter draining and cleaning, valves and seats were 5 angle cut, and the cams were polished. Used an Elring gasket for the head and BMW OE for the rest of the sealing surfaces. Changed the oil 2 times after the work was completed with Mobil 1 Euro 0w40, and finally once more at 110,430 miles to Motul 5W40. Cooling system was refreshed (Parts below) and flushed with distilled water twice before filling with BMW coolant. Upgraded the head studs to ARP as I simply dont like the 1 piece design BMW uses.
Checked all the important rubber bushings, everything is was in great shape aside from the front sway bar bushings. Not a big fan of poly bushings for a street driven car, but I did add limiters to the RTABs as I prefer the feeling.
Extras I have done in the last 3 months (I have a problem):

I've likely forgotten a few things, but thats the bulk of it!
Sale also includes quite a few extras as I planned on keeping this one. Oil filters, fuel filter, random replacement bulbs, original steering wheel, shift boot, e-brake boot, stock headlights, Bentley workshop manual, tons of receipts, original exhaust etc.
Small issues:
-Slight discoloration on the back of the headrest from seat covers, easy fix if its bothersome.
-Normal rock chips and a few very small dings (hard to catch in photos, tried by using direct sunlight)
-Headliner is sagging (may have this fixed if a local shop has time before sale)
Overall this is an excellent example that I would drive to California tomorrow. Just needs a new owner to take over and hopefully drive it!
SOLD
Cheers,
Andrew
One more to show how the color changes:
Durametric software will do it. I live far from any dealer, and my local indy doesn't have the piwis or obd II that's needed to reset the light. the autosupply places like Kragan, etc, have software but their stuff wont clear the air bag light. its either go to the dealer or invest in the Durametric software. Check out the Durametric website, and good luck....
Probably a seat belt receptacle tripping the light. Have it scanned, as someone said Duremetric system can help you diagnose and reset the light after you address the issue. If it is the seat belt receptacle, it is a relatively easy an issue to fix but it does require removal of the seat, and re-stringing of the wire through the seat to the harness.
Let us know what you find out,
Where are you located? I'm in Southern CA and can reset your airbag light...... Don't pay the dealer $100 + dollars to clear your lights.... I'll do it for a six pack.
just got the same light pop up on my dash - as I was movin my driver's seat up. Anyone in the Toronto/Burlington area got a reader that can do a reset ?
I had the air bag light come on when I was sitting in the car with the key in the ignition, engine off, seat belt off, and I ejected and reloaded a cd. Really. this bizarre episode and others are likely found using the magic search button here and at renntech. Durametric was the answer for me. I think this whole issue should be part of a pinned forum on renntech called "Porsche mystery issues," or something like that. Loren? so good luck and see if there's an indy or kind person nearby who has the multi-car version of Durametric and is willing to share. There is a posted list of helpful Porsche people on renntech. It's about a 3 minute fix to clear the air bag light. good thoughts...
ya I was doing something similar - left hand on the ignition just turning it over, right hand clicking in the belt buckle to moving the seat up manually. Dash lights ran their course and the airbag light stayed on. I go to an indy near by that can take care of it, but when I recently got my clutch done I also asked them about the low rev rate (idling at about 650rpm). I got the bill and noticed a charge for hooking up their scanner.
Hi folks,
Is there anybody in Mn with a scanner that I can reset the airbag light on my 996 for $. Planning to invest in a Durametric next month and do away with the Actron CP9175 that I own. Thanks guys.
I cleared my codes with Durametic, then replaced the seat belt receiver, but still have the air bag light on with code 31 saying passenger ignition error. What now? Guessing the ignition switch?
Quote:
What year is your 996? Do the seat belt buckles have the gold connectors? Check the passenger buckle connections/sensors first.
Lots of stuff on this issue over on Renntech.
Good luck.

Is your offer is still good ? I'm in Southern California in Torrance. Airbag light is on. Car was sitting for a while and battery drained so may be related to that or perhaps wire harness that others have suggested. I'll make it a twelve pack due to inflation.
