POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello, I am interested to hear if anyone who has bought or buying a new Cayman 981 this year has achieved any good discounts? Or when you should be walking into a dealer, month end, year end etc etc Lastly apart from the turbo engines coming out ( next year !? ) , Porsche don’t have any mk2 versions coming out? Thank you, Phil

POST 2Original post

Some threads mentioned 8-12% on the base Boxster with PCP (which you can pay off if <30 days)

POST 3Original post

I ordered mine in December before Christmas, as many here mentioned it's good to do it before end of quarter or year when they closing their reporting periods. Managed to get 10% off list on custom order car + 1 extra year of warranty for free and free 1st service. It took me several visits though to secure such a deal.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you for your replies. Looks like 10% could be gained then.

POST 5Original post

Yep, we hit quarter end with our OPC, well over 10% was secured to hit their rebate targets. G

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Can i ask when the next quarter end is? What do you think to my two specs. The first is full fat, the 2nd one is trying to save some ££ http://www.porsche-code.com/PGPDDPQ1 http://www.porsche-code.com/PG36CIP5 Cheers, Phil

I have it and am not impressed. Most of the other options are very much personal aesthetic preferences, and only you can judge whether they represent good value for you.

POST 8Original post

I think you will get between 8% to 10% discount on a stock or showroom car, but it will probably have to be on the Porsche PCP Finance scheme to achieve these levels of discount. Last week of June would be a good time as they are nearing the end of the 2nd quarter and will be chasing targets and registration bonus, happy hunting & let us know how you get on.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Do you think these levels would be likely on a Spec changeable car?

POST 10Original post

No I don't. But prior to buying my Cayman, my local Porsche Centre once invited me to spec their next stock car for them as they would have a little more margin to play with in it. I thought that was a nice move on their part but declined the offer as I knew as soon as I saw it I would have to buy it. IIRC, the conversation was a December one based upon Pistonheads threads about super discounts for end of year that weren't on offer in real life at my Porsche Centre when I enquired.

POST 11Original post

philnotts said: Do you think these levels would be likely on a Spec changeable car? No I don't either its all about shifting the metal you will have to work for it as well, you will need to get at least half a dozen on the go making sure that they are not from the same dealer group. Some dealer groups own up to three outlets i.e. Inchcape they own Porsche Bournemouth, Portsmouth, Glasgow, so you will be on all of their systems the first time you make enquiries on a particular car. So for me living in Bournemouth I would make enquiries at my local, followed by Exeter, Swindon, East Sussex to get an idea of stock and potential deals, last year I spoke to a dealer in the Midlands with a heavy spec Cayman S ex PEC car and they offered me £10k off with three days of September to go it can be done you just have to work at it, for me its all part of the fun

POST 14Original post

My thoughts exactly, but it had two of my must haves PTV and lowered sports chassis by 20mm it sold a few months later for even more money off. Same dealer has a Red Cayman S that was for sale back in September still for sale today

POST 15Original post

Depending on your desired spec, you'll probably get a better deal buying ex-demo/nearly new - they seem to spec the cars generously and do offer a sensible price for a lot of these. Some dealers offer keener prices than others. Leicester and Guildford come to mind. I have been thinking and thinking about buying a Cayman for about 8 months, so have lots of different quotes and practice in discussing the financing options. That said, Reading offered me a measly 800 off for taking financing on a (fairly keenly priced) Cayman. Seems too little, no?

Red Boxster GTS 2015 (64) with less than 2,000 on the clock for £63k. I punched the options into the configurator and sure enough the 'new' list price would have been £63k... Sadly, this doesn't surprise me - I looked at ordering new last year, but gave up when I saw the rubbish discounts being offered. A consolation may be that buying on finance will be cheaper than buying a used version of the same car, if you don't take the car at the end... They have every angle covered!

Phil I'll assume we are talking similar specs here - are we even talking new? If the 3.4 S has all the bits that you want then it looks a good deal. The general feeling is that the GTS is going to hold its value significantly better than the 3.4S - and your figures seem to bear that out. It seems that that the 3.4S has "already" depreciated more than the GTS. The 2.7 looks relatively expensive because it's not really competing for GTS buyers - whereas the 3.4 S is. It's not valid if the 3.4S is cheaper, in part, because it doesn't have some of the things that the GTS has (PSE, PSM/SS Chronosport, big wheels in particular) which might not be fussed about - but future buyers might be. Just my two penn'orth though. Edited by bcr5784 on Wednesday 3rd June 12:15 Edited by bcr5784 on Wednesday 3rd June 12:38

Phil Hi Phil, I got figures from Lombard Asset Finance earlier in the year on a Cayman GTS My spec was £65K Figures looked like this New Car £65000 - £12000 deposit £53,000 to finance over 36 months £836.34pm or 48 months £677.74pm with a balloon payment of £29705 at the end of the agreement, this figure was the same at the end of Month 48 if you wanted to keep the monthly's down, but would leave you in the s t at the end so to speak ie negative equity, however if you new you had monies coming in further down the line you can pay off the outstanding finance as and when with no penalty. The APR quoted at the time was 5.9% however I think they have since sharpened their pencils and you could get them down to 5.4% APR hope this helps in deciding what to go for or not as the case me be.

£72k ouch, only one winner when you buy PCP and it's not the customer. £7k interest on a item which will loose 50% of its value in 3 years, crazy. Or £1,170 a month to rent it if you hand it back. How do people afford to own cars this way ? Edited by PorscheGT4 on Wednesday 3rd June 16:10

People do all kinds of crazy things with there money, it's what makes the world go around. Can make sense if you are a sole trader ie NOT a ltd company as you would get hammered on the BIK Tax.

Edited by PorscheGT4 on Wednesday 3rd June 16:10 Accepting that buying new cars is a mug's game (speaking as a sometime mug), with interest rates at the current levels you only have to be a slightly bigger mug to do it on finance. And if you have investments which make more than 5.4% you can actually make money if you take finance rather than cash in your investments. The stock market has been very kind for a couple of years - and looks set fair for a while to come. You are likely to get better discounts from you OPC too. Of course that is a risky approach and not for everyone.

Even the 2nd hand market seems very strong, so are you really saving there for 1 / 2 year old car :/

Yes, and if you get a new one you get it exactly as you want, fully warranted for 3 years, untouched by human hand, particularly if you pick it up in Stuttgart.

POST 40Original post

I sense that the demise of the 6 cylinder Boxster has put the ball even more firmly in their court. My OPC had one slot for a BGTS in 2015. I got a token gesture of £500 off (I wasn't interested in finance, which could have given me more of an opportunity) but had to grab the slot or risk ending up with a Turbo 4...

POST 41Original post

Yes I managed to get £1500 off a new BGTS order last September but did not go through with the order, just wondered what kind of deals people are getting off standard non GTS stock vehicles, the other half is interested in new Boxster to fairly basic spec.

POST 42Original post

You can get about £30k off if you option the better steering and brakes. Use the option code '987.2'. /wind up/

POST 43Original post

I have recently ordered a BGTS, two points to list, £500 appears to be the max discount, £300 seemed to be the average! Also my car is being built in January 2016 so no last orders in September. So looking forward to listening to that exhaust!

However a nice spec S is still a very exciting prospect ! Role on September

POST 46Original post

If you count the £1,500 deposit contribution going down the road of a PCP then you can inflate the discount to £2,000 on a BGTS but the dealers are now giving no more than £500 for cash.

POST 47Original post

So I think the discount I got was pretty useful. Managed to get out of our 14 plate Cayman S after exactly 1 year of ownership, value of car washed it's face with the finance, so nothing owed. So essentially cost me the monthly payments every month, as I did not put in a deposit.. No service, tax or consumable costs, just petrol and insurance... Looking forward to getting back into Porsche at a future date.. G
