Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all - I am contemplating whether to splash out on a k&n type induction kit or just remove the resonator and block up. The question is: is there a difference in the sound between the two mods? Putting any bhp gains, or lack thereof, aside - there is obviously a difference of about 300 quid between the mods! Thoughts?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

And not even £3 on some plumbing kit to block the resonator hole after removal?!

POST 4Original post

SIX tanks?! Please urgently advise where you are buying your fuel!!

POST 5Original post

Already fitted for £2.52 http://www.911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=46801 ... as for fuel, my name is GT4 and I got hit by an OPC bill and woke up in 2002... (or it's the fact it gets refilled at 1/4 tank every time )

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes - I was referring to your plumbing bits! Btw, couldn't find your stuff in Wickes, will need to try a specialist...

POST 7Original post

CHARMING! I bought mine from a (proper) plumbers merchant. I also added a K&N panel filter and Schnell CAI (aka rubber tube) My mistake, it was £2.42 ScrewFix sell them AFAIK if you want a hightstreet-ish "name brand".

POST 8Original post

I got the same from B&Q but I actually preferred the higher, more shrill (if a little muted) scream sound of the original induction pipe with resonater chamber used as intended. At least it's cheaper to put back if you just do the B&Q plumbing solution. Having said that though, I'd still like to hear a K&N induction kit

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

You mean you preferred it totally standard? Or with the resonator removed and using the original pipe? You'd have to block the Y section else it will draw air that bypasses the MAF sensor...

POST 10Original post

+1 ... Either you've described an odd effectively standard setup, a MAF bypass (which will end in tears) or you have left the resonator chamber in place, but not connected, which although you state means it is working as intended, it won't be and will just be a restrictive carbuncle in your airbox.

POST 11Original post

Sorry for being confusing :-s I removed the resonator and blocked the resulting hole in the airbox with the plumbing bits. Using the standard Y-shaped tube from the airbox to the throttle housing. I preferred the standard sound.

POST 12Original post

The problem isy you still have the "Y" spur producing venturi turbulence. Without the resonance chamber, who knows what new frequency effect you introduced.

POST 14Original post

Have a look at this thread: http://www.911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=51335&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 Lots of info on there about all this stuff including links to threads on other forums etc. I think there may be pics of the plumbing bits mod on there too.

POST 15Original post

Actually that one degenerates into drivel, but the first 2 or 3 pages are OK. Have a search on here for CAI (Cold Air Intake), K&N, things like that, there's lots of info on here if you can find it.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
