To re-set all the memory you have to keep the M button and the key button pressed for more than 5 seconds....then all memories are clear so you can start again.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi there
i have read in the past that there is a feature which i cannot get to work on my car,
as i understand te nearside mirror can be made to dip to see the kerb when reverse is engaged
also i thought this is fitted when electric memory seats are as part of the memory function
can anyone tell me if the above is true or not, is it part of the mem seats option or a seperate option?
and if it is part of the mem seats do i have to "activate" it like the central locking options (locking automatically when driving etc)
or is there a sequence of button presses to make this work?
thanks in advance
Tim P
Interesting....
I had mem seats in my first 4S, nobody ever mentioned the mirror option to me though, so will be interested to learn if it is true or not...?
I just this lunchtime spent some time looking at the Porsche 996 User Manual (PDF) here.............
http://www.cannell.co.uk/Manuals.htm
It details the function you describe.
Good Luck

I have the memory seats and it uses those controls - ignition on, car in reverse and press the buttons as per the manual (I'd have to look it up!). Just as b14desman says. For me it does tend to adjust to a little too low...
Have you tried adjusting it while in reverse and setting it exactly where you would like it, then pressing the memory store buttons again?
Don't know if this works on a Porsche, but it does on a lot of cars with memory seats and reverse mirror dip.
thnks for all the replys
i tried setting the position in reverse gear but it doesnt move when drive is selected again (its a tiptronic)
i think i will have to consult the local dealer as i think its a dealer activated option a bit like the various locking options
was hopeing there is some micro switches or buttons somewhere for me to play with without having to go to the dealer but have been thinking about getting the on board computer activated/retro fitted by wright tune so will see if they know about this as well
cheers

Hope it helps and doesnt confuse everyone
My Turbo has the 3 position memory seats and I asked my OPC last time it was in to set-up the dipping side mirror. They had a look and advised it was an option and mine was not fitted with it... so no luck. So based on what they told me I'm guessing it's an option irrespective of having memory seats.
The dipping mirror is called the parking assistant (as opposed to Park Assist which is the reversing sensors) and works on cars with memory seats. However the function needs to be turned on using a PST or PIWIS tool that the dealer or independents have. It takes 2 minutes to do.
We had this feature as part of the memory seats fitted to the old Boxster.
The mirror dipping feature can be switched on or off while sitting in the car, the procedure was detailed in the handbook and I once disabled and subsequently re-enabled it, to prove to myself that it could be done.
Your own handbook should explain how it's done.
I was told by my opc that this function wasn't available on my car when I asked them to enable it (they tried but couldn't find it when they plugged the computer in) despite the drivers seat being a memory seat. My guess is that early cars didn't come with this function (mine's a 1998) as its not mentioned in my drivers manual but seems to be for later cars.
Gees, it's been 4 weeks tomorrow since my cars been on life support at the OPC... but good news finally the parts have arrive from Germany and with a bit of luck I might have it back for this weekend... fingers crossed. Anyway, after reading these posts I have just rung the OPC and asked them if they can indeed turn on the dipping mirror function by using that special tooly thing mentioned in one of the previous posts... will advise outcome as soon as I know.
