Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a strange electrical fault. . . . . . It turns on the interior lights and makes the windows open ???? This happens on start up intermitantly and has also happened whilst driving along sometimes. I had it plugged in when i had it serviced about a month ago and there were no fault codes present, ive recently had the alternator refurb'd but have noticed that the voltage readings have been rather sparadic recently where they drop to around 13 and then go back up to just above 14 again. Im wondering if i have a poor earth or dodgy connection, has anyone had the same sorts of symptoms ? ??

POST 2Original post

There is a micro switch in the door(s) that can fail. It may cause your windows to come down(the car thinks you are opening it up....hence the light comes on). Impossible to confirm however without getting it checked out.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

ahhhhh that could be it as i have a rattle thats started in the drivers door, maybe thats where there is a loose connection !! good thinking !! thankyou !!

POST 4Original post

Hi, Did you get anywhere with this problem? My 2001 tt has just started doing this after I replaced the battery - very worrying!!!

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I havent had it happen for a while now but i have noticed that it only seems to happen when it hasn't been driven for a few days and the voltage gets a bit low due to drainage from alarm etc. . . After the last time it happened i gave the battery a good charge and since then its been used daily and i havent had the problem again. So in conclusion it appears that the symptoms rise when there is a low voltage, you should first start by charging your battery, especially if you dont drive the car daily. . . . . you also mention that its a new battery . . . . the thing with new batteries is that they have often been sitting for a while and possibly lost some charge so its good to give them a charge when installed. if after you've had the battery charged still get problems have your alternator checked. . . often the voltage regulators go on them. . . . If you do find that your alternator has gone dont buy a new one, have the one you've got refurbed it will save you a small fortune, i had mine completly refurbed and it only cost me £190 including labour, its an easy job to remove the alternator so no need for extortionate OPC labour charges, any qualified machanic should be able to do it with ease. I hope that this helps
