Turned out it and other 992’s had bits still to be fitted - simple things but items which needed to be fitted before being allowed to be shipped to the UK.

Porsche are quite secretive about daytime running lights, as well as other elements that are camouflaged, hence the need to bolt some on to the bumper.

I received an email and call from Andrew Hughes which didn't help much........................but yesterday evening I received an email from my OPC saying my car was now on a ship.
I have placed an order for a new 911 C2S in Dec-2021 and I was told I should have it before the end of 2022. Well….
That was before rasPutin went mad and invaded Ukraine. Then we learned that the wiring harness is made in UA and due to supply-chain issues the timelines will be longer. Does anyone on this forum have a better insight?
On a positive side, Porsche posted fantastic financial results, boasting record sales and strong demand. Where did these cars go, looks like not to UK, as my OPC has not seen a new 911 for over six months. Second positive is that Porsche stopped shipping new cars to ruSSia. Will it make much of a difference?
I suspect I will get it in 2023, probably 992.2 model, which doesn’t worry me that much, if only I had more info with some degree of certainty, so I can plan for it.
Are any of you waiting for 911, what are your timelines?

I ordered a C4 GTS in December too. Was told 12 months initially, but now they have no idea. Finger in the air time. If I see it in 2023 I’ll be happy.
I’m hoping the rumour of a NA 4.0 992.2 with a manual box is real (I know it’s very unlikely), as I’ll switch to that if it does emerge.

That sport classic will be another hens teeth 911 I suspect
For whatever reason Porsche last year chose to throttle back on cars being delivered to the UK. Global sales were actually an all time record and in excess of pre-pandemic levels…like Apple with it’s iPhone’s it appears VW group is making sure it’s most profitable brand is getting the chips/parts it needs.
In the first three months of this year Porsche delivered 4280 cars in the UK…up 46% on the 2931 cars it delivered in the same period last year.
Now a lot of those will be Taycan’s but clearly they’re making cars When i was at my OPC ten days ago they’d just had a delivery and had four new GT4’s sat waiting to go to PDI.
I suspect what is happening with Carrera S is that any 911’s that are getting made are GTS/Turbo/GT3. They’re the most profitable cars and the newest models….same happened with 991.2. When they started making GT3 and GTS my OPC got one Carrera S in a year.
Similar boat to the original poster. Ordered a 992 c2 in Dec 2021 and was told it will be mid year 2023. I have a good relationship with OPC and have been told they will ensure I get my car as soon as they can but I will happily wait for a 992.2. Bigger things in the world to worry about at the moment.
Is it ever worth it? There are 45 992 S's for sale, the spec all blends into the 'usual-usual' - how far removed are those for sale from what your spec is? Not withstanding the supposed enjoyment of speccing from new, but surely the year long (and longer) order time (and uncertainty) why not just buy a used one?

Overs is probably the answer.

I don't think so for the majority. The list price is £99K. Lets say 10-20% on top for options, circa £110-£120. There are only 2 of the 45 over £120K.
I don't think there is that much in it and as I say most people spec quite similar. I'd be amazed if there isn't something there that matches the spec someone is waiting a year+ for.
I have a C2 (base) on order. Ordered recently and car is due at the end of next year but could arrive early 2024.
I’ve just settled a 3 year old C2S to use for now and potentially beyond. As per the above, waiting for more than one year is a long wait….and if it came earlier, would want to wait to make sure it’s the 992.2 anyway.
I was at my OPC on Thursday for a service and a conversation with the sales guy about my Wife's Macan S.
He showed me a report that they now get monthly from Porsche GB with predicted dates for all models. It was March's report and doesn't take into account Ukraine's wiring harness issues.
I didn't notice what the C2S date was but the C4S (which is what I have) date was Q4 2023. He was expecting that to slip into 2024 when April's report was availale.
Quickest dates I saw was for the Cayenne Platinum Edition - Q3 this year.

992.2 with 4.0 and MT would be a worth-waiting trade-off.

Probably highly sought after but you need to kick up a fuss about waiting aeons for a build slot and ask them to prioritise you for a Sports Classic all things considered.
Cool idea, thanks for the reference, I wonder what is going to be the availability.

It depends on the motivation and a purpose. It’s not my first, nor my last Porsche. However, I intend to keep it for ~5 years and I don’t want a pre-owned by 3 other blokes vehicle.
Given the med-geo-political situation I am happy to wait, I will need it when life returns to normal and I can travel across Europe again… south of France, Italy, Spain… good old days 8-)

well tell them to release your deposit back to them then. You can't be waiting 2 years for a car surely?. By the time the time comes the model range will have moved on.

Very unlikely I am afraid,,,,it’s one of those “if you have to ask” you won’t get one situations. I think I heard it’s speculated it is going to be a GT2 like spec….so Turbo powertain with RWD. Quite a different car to the 997 Sport Classic which was more about the looks than the “go”.

of the entire 992 range it could become the most highly sought after.
Ordered c2s cab in Dec 21 for Jan 23 delivery - when I spoke to the dealer last week they said likely to be a much longer wait as they have only had GTS cars so far this year so they are way behind with their orders
When’s the 992.2 likely to arrive ?
Looks like our 992 orders will become 992.2 orders. I don’t see a problem with that, if only Porsche were willing to keep us updated. I do understand that we live in volatile times, but they must have a production schedule, which is updated as the situation unfolds.
When I was a young man and driving BMWs, I used to get production slot few days after placing an order. Then they would contact me if a car with similar spec was available sooner. Sadly, with all the modern tech and scheduling systems, some manufacturers remain opaque.
Wouldn’t it be cool to have a serial number of a bespoke premium car a year in advance?

As long as you don't mind the fact it will be a hybrid!
DMC2 said:

I understand there will be new hybrid derivative, alongside classical flat-six petrol. No?
It looks like the hybrid will be based on the Turbo S. So, an ultimate performance 911, with probably 800hp or something daft. And it’s not a PHEV, the batteries are self charging.
Looking at the facelift of the 992.2, they appear to have made big improvements to the backend, especially the sports exhaust. Looks like the 991.2 GTS with the pipes closer together, and almost GT3 like. That’s if the latest spy shots are to be believed and it’s not all camouflage.

Hi
Suggest you look at the “992 Allocations to the dealers” thread on Page 3.
My C4S ordered in Mid 2021 is due to be built in June. There have been quite a few allocations for base and S models over the last couple of months - mine included and that thread shows orders are being fulfilled. I have asked my dealer recently about delays due to Ukraine and his response was that they can see their cars are still being built to the schedule they expect and they are receiving completed cars. It’s worth pointing out that 992.2 production won’t start until the second half of 2023 and will be just after a price rise as that’s how it’s normally scheduled. Russia doesn’t take many 911s so that won’t have freed up much - it’s mainly Macon’s, Cayennes etc built in
Leipzig.
Hope that helps.

Very interesting… thanks for the reference point, so you are on 12-months lead time. I can live with that. Interesting that my OPC didn’t get any 911 base and S cars in the last 6 months, so maybe its time for our allocations.
According to my dealer before the allocations in the last month or two their last base/S allocation was July 2021 and that car was delivered in October. Allocations are apparently being done on a strict order date basis across the UK which may explain the apparent discrepancies across dealers.

I have heard the same feedback from my OPC, I.e. order dates are reviewed across the country. I understand that Porsche GB has got central visibility of the orders with dates, but it is the DP decision who actually gets a car.
I have been 4th in the C2S queue for the last 5 months (Dec—May). What are the chances of sudden production run to clear the backlog?
I am now mentally preparing myself for 2023MY vehicle, probably 992.2.
I pref the 992 front bumper and lights. The ‘sloth-eyes’ stuck on the sides of the 992.2 bumper look out of place.

Do you mean the running lights the test cars are wearing? I believe those are only temporary and won’t be on the final design.

Yes, I thought those were fog lights, as the matrix lights have running lights built in.

Porsche are quite secretive about daytime running lights, as well as other elements that are camouflaged, hence the need to bolt some on to the bumper.

"Sloth Eyes" wont be a feature on the 992.2, they are used for testing only.
I think they will be a feature like on the 997 Turbo.
I hope it will be optional feature for ‘sloth-eyes’ enthusiasts.

Is it ever worth it? There are 45 992 S's for sale, the spec all blends into the 'usual-usual' - how far removed are those for sale from what your spec is? Not withstanding the supposed enjoyment of speccing from new, but surely the year long (and longer) order time (and uncertainty) why not just buy a used one?
umm 2 things really , 1 I want what I want , 2 dont want a car that some other Arse has clowned about in , "supposed enjoyment of speccing from new" really ?
So I am now #3 in the queue at my local OPC. The dealer doesn’t have the national sequence number, but it must be large given the number of OPC’s. I no longer believe in random events… it is a signal: enjoy the Boxster for another season and wait for the 992.2.

Can they give you any idea of the delivery? You may have no option but to wait for 992.2 but I think they are producing the car quite fast as 2 people I know their 992 are delivered 2 weeks early and so you may get it sooner, obviously it depends how many cars are delivered to the UK dealers per month - something we wouldnt know.

They think I should get it still this year, but it’s pure speculation, until I get a build allocation. If I get an allocation in July, I will grab it. However, if I get it for Dec, I will probably pass it to the next person in the queue and I will wait for 992.2.
Hello, thought I’d add my timeline for reference:
Ordered 992 Turbo S Jan 21.
Allocation confirmation Dec 21.
Build slot Mar 22 (moved to Apr 22).
Arrived at OPC May 22.
For SA, my dealer says it’s the only 992 Turbo S allocation he has had for 2022 so far.

I would just say you may get an allocation two to three months before the actual build of the car. I had my allocation in Feb 22 for a car to be built in June with delivery in July (hopefully). Spec to be done by end April.. So if you get an allocation in December you may actually see the car ready for spring 23. Hope that helps.

Yes, that is what I am expecting… I am surprised how long does it take to get an allocation. In my previous life, when I used to drive BMW, I would get an allocation days after I placed request for build to order vehicle. That was over a decade ago, on a diff continent.

I was told by the porsche dealer that the delivery of 992.2 will start in November 2023. So it will be a long wait if he is right.

If it helps my C4S should hopefully be built in a couple of weeks time and be delivered in July.
That is awesome, post some pics, when it arrives.
I was getting worried that with the parts shortage new GT cars are prioritised.
Have a look at my post on Page 1. Spoke to the dealer a couple of weeks ago and although it had slipped a week or so was still on track for June build and July delivery…

Out of interest, @bl0498 , why did you select C4S?
I am patiently waiting for C2S allocation, which is not happening fast enough :-/
Historic really. We have a 996 and when we bought that my wife whom drives it a lot was concerned about tail happy 911 behaviour so we bought a C4…. Hence I have just continued that even though I know we don’t really need it etc… bit more reassurance in the winter too.
Still at stage 3 in the app so don’t think it’s hit production yet…

I’m hopeful this it will switch from 3 to 4 next week which the pictures off the line to follow. I didn’t get these last time and although it doesn’t change anything it seem a fun thing to have.

Very interesting… I have two friends with C4S, both bought for arb reasons and enjoy it tremendously!
I really want C2S if it ever arrives :-|
My C2S is due into OPC mid-July, it’s still showing stage 3 on the app but it’s definitely in production as I was in OPC yesterday and saw it was in build on their system
Glad I’ve already got deposit in for my next one as they suggested 24 months lead time for somebody walking in now with no history!

Ordered 992 basic model 4 in July 2021. Waited patiently for 6 months then bought a used one. Sold it back in Jan when I was told my new car came off the assembly line on 12 Jan 2023. Even got photos but now I'm beginning to doubt them. Was told car would arrive early Feb so decided to wait until1/3 before registering it. Last week was told its still at Emden waiting to be shipped. Should I be suspicious? Anyone else suffering from Emden Blues?
Don’t give up hope @Softcentre. Mine came off the production line in August/September last year and was sat at Emden for weeks. Turned out it and other 992’s had bits still to be fitted - simple things but items which needed to be fitted before being allowed to be shipped to the UK. This took a while. Even if this isn’t the issue cars can be sat at Emden for a few weeks. I got my 992 C4S in early November after ordering in Feb 21.. it will only be a few more weeks…
I had the same delays on both a GT4 and Spyder. GT4 finally arrived at dealer only to be held until missing parts were delivered. Spyder got ‘stuck’ in the factory -> Emden segment for about a month. Both cars did arrive eventually and are awesome…. Keep the faith!

Today marks 70-weeks since I placed order for 911 Carrera S.
I was 4th in the queue then and I am 4th in the queue now.
I suspect when it finally arrives it will be 992.2 !

I gave up waiting for my base car with no news at about 70 weeks in. It took my that long to realise that waiting was pointless as I should have upgraded to a GTS early on or a T later on as these were the only cars they wanted to sell, neither of which were what I wanted.

Ditto, I am getting 992 T in May. Once behind the wheel I will reassess if I still want an S
Last weekend I wrote a letter addressed to Krishan Bodhani. I received an email and call from Andrew Hughes which didn't help much........................but yesterday evening I received an email from my OPC saying my car was now on a ship. Don't know which one but hopefully
in Grimsby by tomorrow.
Trying not to get too excited until I actually see my car.
Don't know if the letter helped or if it was just coincidence - I guess I'll never know.

That is great… probably coincident, as I don’t think Krishan can move logistics on the continent, but the main thing is that you are getting your vehicle. Congrats!
Today marks 73-weeks from the day I placed an order for 992 C2S.
I am rather disappointed and disillusioned with the OPC, as I started as 4th, and 516 days later I am still 4th in the queue. Is that normal?

That’s ridiculous to have to wait that long and still have be 4th on the list. They have clearly had other 992 c2s cars delivered in that time otherwise they wouldn’t have a viable new car sales business!

I actually think that the 911’s were pre-reg as demo cars and swiftly sold at premium, rather than allocated to patiently awaiting customers.

No they were customers cars available, friend had one. which he sold on after a number of months and bought a turbo s. His wasn’t a demo.

So they are being made.

A nice simple spec 992 c2 will end up being rarer than a 992 gt3!

There’s the rub with the massive 911 waits. Genuinely interested in What other brands/cars would you look at/are direct replacement for a nicely specd 911 as a daily driver?
I mean In terms of use ability/performance/running costs and depreciation.

I waited 20 months for my 992 GTS, I had initially ordered a C2S but due to allocation issues (ie none to my dealer) I accepted the offer of their only allocated GTS, that was going to be their demonstrator, and took delivery last month.
From that you can probably tell that I think they are special enough to wait but the world would be a duller place if everyone lusted after the same thing.

If I can't have boxer-6-cyl motor, I would go back to inline-6-cyl motor.
Depreciation is heavy, but the car is a decent daily driver.
I have an allocation for June delivery and I can fully understand the frustrations. I was in the same position and called the dealer principal as I felt I was being given a line.
A long wait list is ok if it is real. When you punters think it is not it works against you.
My view is that sales should be have nothing to do with allocations. You should just be put on a list with Porsche U.K. and when you are up your car arrives.
I can’t see how the complex system of dealer allocations works for anyone. The dealer ends up with pissed off customers. The dealer is also limited by their allocations as Opposed to their ability to sell. Everyone seems to loose.
I do know from my discussion with the dealer principal that they make more of the high value cars as to be blunt they make more money. I was offered 2 x gts by Porsche Reading ( not my dealer - I just got my car serviced there ) in a 3 week period. I wanted a cab and did not want to spend gts money but if I had I could have had it some months ago

What you say is correct, they are currently focused on building higher value / higher profit cars.
They have been since covid.

Agreed. 1.5 years of your life waiting for a car. Unless you've got a garage full of other interesting stuff fair enough, but a lot of people here seem to be genuinely
waiting
. F that. I'd buy a decent enough used one. They're almost always speced within an inch of each other anyway.
In my opinion our porsche dealerships have sadly change over the last 15 years. They are becoming like a bmw or merc sales operation, it’s all about volume car sales now. SUV vehicles and electric Tycan are what they are most concerned with, oh and selling finance pcp packages at 11 % with every deal.
They probably sell more than 3 times the amount of Cayennes than 911 nowadays and the cayman could now be their lowest volume car.
It’s a business and moving forward they will concentrate heavy on what ever makes them the most money.
In my opinion being made to wait 1.5 to 2 years for a new 911 is very poor customer service and will end up being bad for business.
Why treat customers this way?

The problem with buying a similarly spec’d used one is that, for the past few years, there has not been much of a difference in price. This may change but used prices are still quite strong so it’s a case of balancing the long wait against the cost saving - I’m quite patient and tight so I waited!

Finmac, that's the main issue. I have always wanted a 911, and having had the experience of buying both my Cayman and Taycan new, I want the 911 experience of specing and having "my" car. I have had BMW's but the new styling is just odd for my liking. Dont like Merc, and had terrible customer service at Audi in the past so that would be a no. Its a first world issue, but I will probably just hang out there for another year for my allocation to pop up!. I did think about a Lotus but reliability worries me, plus my nearest dealer is 50+ miles away.

I also agree. I've dealt with sales people at three different OPCs over the past six months when I bought 3 different cars, and not one of them was a 'Porsche' person. None of them knew the cars, none of them had driven the cars I was buying. No historical knowledge, all had to go find out answers to basic spec questions. I don't know why but it really affects the purchasing experience as you now feel like you are being a VW Golf rather than a Porsche. But hey, where else would I go. Tried other brands and they are just as bad if not worse.
Alas it seems to be the way of the world my industry (materials handling) is exactly the same. Move metal, zero care for the staff, customer, dealer or suppliers.
I blame spreadsheets and accountants!

I guess we may need to look at the wider picture here, is it porsche Uk not interested in taking more allocations of 911 cars as they can make more money out of their suv range and elec cars or is it porsche Germany calling the shots and are they the ones reducing numbers of new 911 cars to create a ‘Rolex’ style Uk market place?
The cars a good bit to be frank not that good.
I like them. I had a 911 carrera sport coupe for 20years , boxter , Cayenne,992. I am not an expert but I know them.
They are good looking , quick , reliable and nice to drive. They are also ( or were ) pretty affordable when compared to Ferrari etc al.
As the price point goes up and up I think the dynamics will change. The dealerships and their dealers are not that special. You are just a slightly less mass market part of the vw group.
I am not knocking them at all. I have just dropped £110k on a 992 but they risk alienating their own market. some of the prices on their web site for new Cayenne with delivery miles are eye watering. The Cayenne is a jolly nice car - but not at over 911 money.

Big issue with BMW/Merc/Audi is the depreciation can be brutal on new cars. Have had a few Lotus including an Exige 410 in the garage just now. Love them, but it ain’t a daily driver for sure! And as I said before, there’s the rub, can’t think of another car as much an all rounder as a 911….
911 is an icon, halo model, it needs a bit of mystique, exclusivity and scarcity… but 2-years waiting list is just stupid. It is turning enthusiasts away. It can’t be good for business.
My father was a lotus dealer and whilst they made nothing on sales the service business did us all right !
Would I buy one? Never. My dad drove a Mercedes sl !
I read in the latest Car magazine (issue 731) that the 911 availability will improve from the end of the year. Porsche is moving 718 Boxster / Cayman production to Karmann plant in Osnabrück.
This will increase 911 capacity in Zuffenhausen by ~30%. Great news for the enthusiasts! Flippers, not so much.

Dont agree I currently have a Boxster GTS 4.0 which I waited 10 months for point being I got exactly what I wanted and at that point price difference was pretty much nothing and spending that much I want to get what I want , also yes a 911 is special
I was at opc yesterday ,when enquiring previously I was told circa 12 months for a gts or turbo .
Tested a car wasn’t for me and mysteriously they suddenly had 6 or 7 cars with july production still spec able if I wanted .
(Gts/turbo models) .
I got a call from my OPC today that I have an allocation for my long awaited 992 C2S.
I replied that is awesome, but I am about to receive a 992 T and I want 992.2 as my next car, so I will skip this allocation.
It is clear that Porsche is increasing the 992 C2 and C2S allocations.

Please can you let me know which dealer this was at? We ordered a GTS about a year ago and are at the point where we will probably cancel it, what with the significant price rise, and the poor comes from the dealer. PM would be appreciated if you don't want to post in the forum

Tested a car wasn’t for me and mysteriously they suddenly had 6 or 7 cars with july production still spec able if I wanted .
(Gts/turbo models) .
Please can you let me know which dealer this was at? We ordered a GTS about a year ago and are at the point where we will probably cancel it, what with the significant price rise, and the poor comes from the dealer. PM would be appreciated if you don't want to post in the forum
I would suggest having a phone around different opc centres.

Agree, normally what we do to get the best deal, whether that's leasing or buying. Should have done this with Porsche too in hindsight, the OPC we have been dealing with has been next to useless. Its sort of ruined the experience tbh.
