Are there any other bits worth replacing whilst it's all in bits - engine mounts?

The Autofarm engine is fine, feels strong and uses no oil at all and they seem to know what they are doing.....but what do I know.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

OK, so we've moved on from my 'misfire and engine light post' of last week.
Engine removed today, looked like a valve seat came apart and fell into the engine. Engine is totalled, apparently, I'll try to attach some pics if I can work out how to do it.
That's hard luck Lexy, must be totally deflated.
I was trying to find an Indy who I'm sure were near Arlesey in Beds, am sur ethey specialise in the 996 engine replacedment, but cant find them!
I did come across this though...

All the best and dont cancel Xmas!!
Considering options at the moment (between sobs!).
New Porsche engine is not cheap but at least has 2 years warranty and resets the engine clock to zero.
Breakers engines are less than half the price, but no warranty and no guarantee it won't detonate at the first roundabout.
Which leaves a rebuild, but given the damage to the liner I think I'll be hit with a surcharge at most places.
The guys at Steve Bull say they've never seen a failure like this before - they reckon the valve seat fell apart and into the cylinder, and it was that getting crushed that broke the liner.
Cheers
Lexy.
If you buy from Design 911 they have a discount code ABC89 that gives a further 5% off until the end of the year so saving £225 and also dont forget the VAT will go back up to 17.5% on 01/01/2010.
I would ring around various Porsche specialists to see if you can get a better deal.
I hope you get everything sorted at the least cost
Thanks again - £225 is still £225! Spoke to one 'famous' 996 3.4 engine rebuilder and once you add the no-engine surcharge it's nearly the same as a new Porsche one - and that comes will all new bolt-ons. Everyone keeps saying the 3.6 liners don't crack - I'll just start sending out the photos to make the conversations easier.
I wonder if design 911 will just sell the engine as Steve Bull have been great in pulling it apart quickly and with minimum fuss. It would be great it they could also put it all back together again.
I'm getting through this by blanking out the cost bit, and just imagining the car back on the drive with a brand-new engine (and clutch - which was needed!).
Are there any other bits worth replacing whilst it's all in bits - engine mounts?
Cheers
Hi if any consolation, I also have a Landcruiser (most reliable 4x4 on the planet), whose engine @ 40K mls gave up, cost me £5K no warranty.
Then last night whilst trying on my 996 TT to free the actuator rod on the turbo, it disintegrated and I also broke the lever on the waste gate, so new turbo needed.
We all know we'll be smiling again, stick in.
Have you spoken to a dealer in regards to fitting a new engine from Porsche... Would Porsche be willing to help out any if you bought new??? If you do go for a new motor from Porsche you'll be happy in knowing you've got the best old 911 with new engine out there and that you can keep and enjoy for a number of years to come with warranty. Surely cheaper than changing the car.
How I would look at it.
1) If you're going to keep it, possibly buy a new engine.
2) If you're going to sell it at some point in the future buy a breakers engine.
Very sorry to hear though and hope you get a good remedy to your problem.
Oh dear sorry to hear about that. You are not the first to have one go bang and your liner cracks are typical. Mine went bang 6 months ago and I ended up putting an exchange Autofarm modified rebuild in as I expect to have the car for some time and I wanted to ensure as best as possible that it didn't happen again. I wsn't cheap (about £2k less than a Porsche unit). but should be stronger in the liner department than a Porsche replacement .
I didnt know about Design 911 and at that price might well have done that.
The Autofarm engine is fine, feels strong and uses no oil at all and they seem to know what they are doing.....but what do I know.
I considered getting a secondhand unit but in the end was too nervous of the unknown.
Hope you find a good solution....and you can still have a christmas.
