Suggestion

I've had Bridgestone s02's on all 4 corners for the last 2 years, they have been brilliant, never let me down in wet or dry, behaved well in the snow, not so well in the slush, filling the treads and becoming slicks!

Personally I use Michelin PS2s which are an excellent compromise for the car when I take it on track, however you do need a bit of temperature in them to get the best out and your Contis may well be on balance a better day to day road tyre.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well, i need to get myself 4 new tyres. What would you guys suggest? I own a boxster too, it has pzero PIRELLI N3 rated on all wheels. Its not a comfy ride at all, so i might not get PIRELLIS on my carrera. Now, on my carrera 996 i have Zr18 nexen radial's on all 4, but they are borderline. They are rotation tyres. What do you guys suggest for an overall tyre? I want to try and make it more comfy too, as its a little hard when driving. I set my backs to 44PSI and fronts to 37PSI is this correct?

POST 2Original post

I run Pirelli P Zeros on both my 996 and my Jag. Have always been a big Pirelli fan as prefer the firmer tyres. There was some discussion on pressures on here with FLGirls issues and I seem to think the recommendation was 34 on the fronts and 40 on the rears.

POST 3Original post

I would personal recommend Continental Sport Contact 2 (or new 3). I have never heard any bad stories on ride, and very good experience overall esp in the wet. I have a set of Conti on one of my 966 loan sets so if you are not a million miles away assuming you are in the UK you could maybe try these out? Even better use them for a week while I get your wheels refurbed and I can get some new tyres fitted for you too

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, thanks for advice. Hrmm, my wheels have just been done black, but are scruffed alittle when the garage did my brakes. I was annoyed as hell, but yeah i just had to deal with it. Ill have a look around at continentals, i was thinking about getting them on anyway. Regarding the Pirelli's i do like them, just in the wet i can't get away with them. However, saying that.. in the dry, on a hot day they are outstanding. I had continentals on my M3 and were very good indeed. Just one question. Will the new tyres need to be rotation tyres too ?

POST 5Original post

If you are driving around on worn Nexens, any tyre is going to be a huge step forwards. As you are not compelled to buy N-rated tyres, I would consider any of the current top tyres, as independently tested. http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Article/2010-Auto-Bild-Ultra-High-Performance-Tyre-Test.htm Either the 'new' P-zero (not the N-rated version), the Conti 3, or even the Hankook Ventus S1 EVO seem to be getting consistently high scores. But read the reviews carefully - for instance - the reviews place the Hankook highly, but 2 out of 3 agree it it not as good as the others in the wet.... important if you live in the UK. http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Article/2010-AMS-Premium-Brand-Tyre-Test.htm Even my beloved Vredestein seem to be falling behind the latest tyres, but then the design is now three years old. I think Chris has got it right - lots of good things said about Conti Sport Contact 3.

POST 6Original post

tyres go for Conti's - Michelin the best for wear - Pirelli wear out far too quick on the rears

POST 7Original post

IME the old Pirellis were poor in the wet from day 1, and EXCELLENT in the dry but only for roughly half their depth, then they became poor in the dry as well. If you live in Southern Italy, and are rich, then buy old-style Pirellis :thumb: If you mean 'rotational', then no.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for all the info. I went with the Continental Sport Contact 2 N2's in the end. They seem to be decent tyres. It was a toss between the Continental Sport Contact 2's and the Pirelli P zero Rosso (N5)'s. I paid the extra for the Continentals, i think it's money well spent. :thumb:

POST 10Original post

I think that you have made the right call there - have heard plenty of unimpressed stories about Rossos, whereas everyone seems to like the Contis (only driven them on a Boxster loaner myself, but found them very good). Personally I use Michelin PS2s which are an excellent compromise for the car when I take it on track, however you do need a bit of temperature in them to get the best out and your Contis may well be on balance a better day to day road tyre.

POST 11Original post

I thought conti's were the original equipment on the porsche are/were they not? I heard the sport contacts were made partly for the 911. Good choice I reckon.

POST 12Original post

I have two sets of wheels for my 996 4S - Pirelli P zero assims on one set and Continental sport contact 2 on the other set. Personally, I much prefer the Contis, much less road noise too.

POST 13Original post

Currently in the process of changing my tyres.... Pzeros have been on the car since 2006 (i have owned the car for just 10months) and they had covered about 17k miles.. which i thought was quite impressive. So i went to kwik fit to get the same again... long story short and being a sucker for a deal... i have ended up with bridgestone S02's.. all 4 corners for 588 fitted and balanced... being fitted saturday. anyone got these and views? I am going to goodwood on sunday for the supercar breakfast so will have a good run to assess them myself.. but if anyone wants to spoil the surprise please do...

POST 14Original post

I've had Bridgestone s02's on all 4 corners for the last 2 years, they have been brilliant, never let me down in wet or dry, behaved well in the snow, not so well in the slush, filling the treads and becoming slicks! The price you got is excellent, which kwickfit was it? I need new rears after 19k so I would like to go for the s02 again, Michelin pilot sports only gave me 15k and then exploded out the sidewall!

POST 15Original post

Hi, I brought them from kwik fit in southend-on-sea. I think the price was dependant on how many tyres you needed... i got a 35% disc for buying all 4... i think it was something like 15% for 2 and 25%for 3.. etc.. will see how I get on at the w/e...
