Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion · Original poster

Is it necessary to maintain a live supply while the battery is disconnected, and if so is it OK to do that using a battery charger rather than connect to an auxiliary battery, or can it be swopped without keeping a supply connection?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm about to put a new battery in my car. Is it necessary to maintain a live supply while the battery is disconnected, and if so is it OK to do that using a battery charger rather than connect to an auxiliary battery, or can it be swopped without keeping a supply connection?

POST 2Original post

If you have a ‘smart’ battery charger then it won’t maintain the 12v supply as it needs to detect a battery in order to provide an output.

POST 3Original post

I changed the battery in my 991.1 Turbo last year. I used a C-Tek charger plugged into the cigarette lighter to hold up the 12V circuit and it worked just fine. Get someone to help you and have a long piece of wood to hand to lift the old battery out and put the new one in - they are heavy as and and incredibly difficult place to reach if you’re on your own I actually watched YouTube video on how to do it beforehand and it really is pretty easy.
