I have just received a new headlamp switch as my 996 facelift appears to have the common "lights on / lights off" problem - and I wanted to have a go at fitting it. However, as soon as I disconnect the battery (negative first) - the alarm goes off. I thought it would stop after 20 seconds, but no - after a couple of minutes all the neighbours were out to have a look. I've been through the manual, and there is nothing about this? When I reconnect the battery, the siren stops after about 20 seconds - so that would appear correct. Does this suggest it has an after market alarm / immobiliser? and does anyone know how to get over this? I do not want to risk disconnecting the light switch cluster without first disconnecting the battery.

Bigandy, perfectly normal, put the ignition key in and turn to first position, then disconnet the battery, stops the alarm sounding. It prevents someone disconnecting the battery to disable the alarm. Hope this helps :thumb:
