So it really is down to a new C2 or a slightly used C4S.
Leading evidence: 'Use c4s' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Use c4s' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Sold my '99 C2 around a month and a half ago and am deciding on what P-car to get next. I really like the widebody look of the C4S and of course its turbo brakes and suspension but a brand new one is a little over my budget. I'm also perfectly happy with a C2...what would you guys do?
You have pretty much answered your own question since you do not have the budget for a new C4S. I think it would be difficult to get a used C4S at this time, but could be wrong.
But since you are asking, I would save for the C4S and not settle for anything less than exactly what I want.
Let me pose a question, say you are sitting at a light in your new C2 and a C4S pulls up in the next lane, your response?
I think you should hold out for a new or slightly used C4S.
How about a slightly more used TT? slightly used C4S will probably still be pretty expensive, I bet you can get a great deal in bit older TT in good condition.

You have no idea how many times I have gone into the Porsche site to spec out my car... I compare what I want in the car and always end up with a C4S as my first choice...
Here are the cars - C4S- aprox. 90k
Turbo - apro 140k
C2 - aprox. 85k
I would love a Turbo... but can't justify the additional 50K... for now it is just a dream... have to get rid of a few debts before I take the plunge...
Whatever car you decide on, make sure you order the sport exhaust... To me that should be the standard exhaust system in these cars...
I am picking up my C4S in a week or so. It's a 2002 with 5,000 miles. The sticker was 91K and I am getting it for 75K.
So, in short, I'd say try and find a C4S. It looks a lot more attractive than a new C2 once someone else has taken the initial depreciation hit.
Santicua,
I'd go test drive an '03 C2 (much different than your '99) and a C4S, then decide. All the better if you can find an 030-equipped C2 to drive. Many folks here (most likely C4S owners) assume that the C4S is the better car. It's just different, and only marginally more expensive than a similarly-equipped C2. They're both fantastic cars, but there's a reason why many 911 (aka C2) owners didn't pick a C4S. That said, if you still want a C4S, there are plenty of fine low-mileage examples out there in the $70K's. Get the car you want.

thanks for all your responses...well, thought about a 993TT...drove my friend's '96 and its a great car but don't think that I can live with the interior (no offense to 993 fans) also thought about the 996TT..although I'd love to have one...I dont want to get in over my head financially
So it really is down to a new C2 or a slightly used C4S. I acutally prefer the 2 wheel drive of the C2 but really like the widebody of a 4S...that's why Im torn.
I have an 01 C4. I would go for the used c4s to get the wide body and the turbo brakes and suspension. My friend has an 03 c4s which he recently tracked. He is a club racer and he raved about the handling and braking.

Hi Santicua,
I picked up my '03 C4S about 2 weeks ago and absolutely love it. I prefer the looks over the C2 (no offense to anyone) and it's nice to have that extra traction in the rain as we've had in the SF Bay Area the past week. I just took the jumper out of the factory sport exhaust and now have "music" all the time! I went through the C2 vs. C4S decision like most others and came away with the C4S. I rented a tip cab C2 before making the deposit on this car and enjoyed getting it sideways but always had that cold chill like I expected the red and blue lights any moment. I concluded I wouldn't be doing that intentionally any more so the extra fun factor of the C2 was not as much there. As for tracking, I will not take my car out there (partly fiancee limited!) but do about 1-2 track days a year on motorcycles...both my own and ZX-6R's. Therefore, the straight-line quickness and fun factor advantage that the C2 may have over a C4S at the track will not be realized for me. Bottom line is I love the looks of the C4S and know I would have regretted getting a C2 everytime a C4S pulled up along side.
So the reason I'm writing is I saw an ad in the paper today (SJ Mercury). I don't know you nor the guy selling the car but I called him to see if I could help you out. I now realize you're also in the Bay Area so your choice on following up. Here's some info:

I honestly have no affiliation with this person.
Good luck,
Andy
BTW, I like what's in your garage. My fiancee and dog drive a 2002 Allroad. I've got the C4S, BMW R1100S (daily commuter), and a Toyota Tacoma for taking the bike to the track!
When someone is confused making the right choice, the best thing to do is (in between)
Neither a TT nor a brand new C2 will bring you satisfaction so i guess C4S = great look & 4wheel no dis-advanatage will be the (in between) right choice.

price is still kinda high....I can get a new one with less options for $83K....what do you think is a decent price? mid-high 70's? car had an original MSRP of $97K
subtract about $10K from their asking price and you have yourself a very good deal! subtract about $8K from their asking pricve and you have yourself a good deal. Subtract anything less than that and you only have a deal <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />
imho of course!
Let's make it more confusing. Throw in $10K more than the asking price of the C4S above and get yourself a Lambo Diablo
