If you know the airbags are working, why go to the expense of replacing a bunch of parts to turn off a 50 cent bulb?

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I posted a thread a while back about this situation and was told to replace the seat belt harness and that should solve the problem with the light coming on. I did replace the harness and all was good for a week, then the light came back on again. Anyone have thoughts as to what the problem really is? FYI: A Porsche scan tool and a Porsche mechanic was used to confirm the driver side seat belt was the problem. I am told that there is also some module in the center console area under the gauge cluster that could be bad and also cause the light to come on. Red lights on my dash are a serious source of aggravation so any insight toward solving this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. MRC

POST 2Original post

There's plenty of threads on the airbag light problem at www.renntech.org . Just try the search function. Also, this site is applicable: http://www.geocities.com/esklut/airbag.html The gist of the matter is the seatbelt wiring harnesses on early Boxsters are cruddy (technical term), which can cause false airbag alarm lights. Although when the alarm light is on, airbags function normally. The real fix specified in the Technical Service Bulletin is replace tin connectors with gold connectors, re-locate the grounding strap, neatly and firmly tie down the wiring harnesses, and change the the seatbelt buckles. Very expensive and I see that you are aware of this from your original post. The gambling way is swap out the offending seatbelt buckle and hope for the best. However, maybe someday in the future on a humid day, the tin connector oxidizes just a little more and bingo, another airbag light. Or, you hit a innocent little bump in the road and bingo, another airbag light. Or, maybe it never happens again while you own the car.

POST 3Original post

Call me crazy, but I'd just remove the airbag light from the instrument cluster and be done with it. If you know the airbags are working, why go to the expense of replacing a bunch of parts to turn off a 50 cent bulb? Just my 02 cents' worth.

Mike, This sounds a lot like deja vu....the exact same thing happened to me about 4-5 months ago...first it was the seatbelt ....then they replaced it...then the light came on again...which was because of the o2 sensor...

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
