Suggestion

I've just ordered a Turbo S cab, so cant comment on the Porsche stuff, but I've read that LR are having supply issues with the higher up Meridean HiFi stuff and a few spec changes on, spec reduced, Autobiography models.

We just collected a brand new Mini replacing a similar car, but on close inspection a few days after delivery I see that it hasn’t got a heated screen nor the digital dash I was expecting & is shown in the brochure.

Hi all, Have any of you with fairly immediate build slots had options pulled? No Burmester, no four zone climate, no black calipers, no tinted headlights, no exclusive design rear lights. More importantly, I've heard they're having to pull some basic functionalities with the cars as well - I've read no more electric steering wheel adjustment! I'll be honest, the options are one thing, but delivering super expensive cars to customers that have waited a while with some basics taken out like seat and steering wheel adjustment isn't right. Not on a 'Turbo S' trim level. Can anyone shed any light?

POST 5Original post

they've seen you coming anyway and expect you to be grateful they've bothered to sell you a car

POST 6Original post

The least you’d expect is good communication. In most industries you’d be doing all you can to help your customer base and retain their future custom. The car industry seems much more fickle than that and the boot has very much been on their foot recently, so I guess they haven’t had to work too hard in this area. On the other hand, customers push for the lowest possible price with carwow style dealing etc. I wonder if you could pass on this build slot in the understanding that you’ll have the next one. Who knows when the supply issues will be solved though.

If it’s not what you ordered and it hasn’t been communicated correctly reject the car.

The messaging I have is that they are restricting certain options on some cars so that those items are available to include on cars that have them as standard fit.

POST 9Original post

No direct experience, but it would annoy me a lot. Especially the blasé communication. Are they not even reducing the price for the missing options?

POST 10Original post

number2 said: No direct experience, but it would annoy me a lot. Especially the blasé communication. Are they not even reducing the price for the missing options? Yes, they will be. Earlier in the year some cars were delivered without the standard electric steering column, as parts were unavailable. The suggestion was that this would be retrofitted at a later date, but I think the current approach (in the US at least) is simply $1,500 compensation. There is no way you will be charged for options you have not received.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I ought to be clear. My car hasn’t arrived - They’ve made it clear before spec even locked, what options can’t be added. Some I wanted, I can’t have, fine. What I was/am concerned about is that they start taking more options away before delivery that I have specified, and also the car starts losing elements of the basic spec. At this level, missing electric seats which are standard or steering wheel adjustment or whatever, and offering £350 off is utterly out of order - and not automatically communicating it the moment you know is completely unethical. Spend £160k on a luxury car and it’s got the same seat adjustment knobs as a Lada Trabant! That Land Rover story linked above is a p155take.

POST 12Original post

These supply issues are affecting the whole automotive industry and have been for many months. Large trucks or tractor units from the likes of Scania or Volvo are often being delivered without the passenger side electric window working or reading lights etc. Modern vehicles just require lots of ecu's so some door modules and like (non essential stuff basically) get pulled with the promise of a retrofit at a layer date. This means they can keep shipping their vehicles out or they would be parked in a field until the said modules become available. Even BMW motorcycles have been hit with the latest GS models arriving with a halogen headlight and not the LED one. It comes with either a voucher for a full conversion to LED in the future or a £500 accessories voucher. They do however make you very aware the issue exists before ordering. The alternative is thousands of motorcycles built and left in warehouses awaiting the supply of the LED headlights before being shipped to customers. Not a great situation but the reality unfortunately especially since so many wiring looms and electrical components were traditionally sourced from Ukraine. It sounds like poor comms from your dealer but its the same all over.

POST 14Original post

My Taycan was delivered a year ago with the fancy lights, fast charge option and what I think is an upgraded home charger. I didn't order or pay for any of it. Can't complain of course but none of it was ever mentioned.

Not a Porsche, but they removed: Augmented Navigation Handsfree access (not the phone) Premium stereo (forget the brand) Memory seats Easypack tailgate Wireless charging. They gave me a £250 John Lewis voucher and no discount as these were all options part of a bigger package. I did have the option to cancel the order but as I was a year in, I just left it.

They have told the OP there are going to be restrictions on what can be spec’s, the other option was the take the spec as you requested it and then they won’t be able to give you a delivery date because they don’t know when they will be able to get parts. The poster said they can't win. I was just playing devil's advocate and pointing out that making 5bn is winning in my book. I'm happy to see them making s t loads of money and brilliant cars, albeit with a marginally different spec than one might like. I'd be royally pi55ed off if I got the standard sound system though.

We just collected a brand new Mini replacing a similar car, but on close inspection a few days after delivery I see that it hasn’t got a heated screen nor the digital dash I was expecting & is shown in the brochure. After research I learn those things have been deleted by Mini & aren’t available even as options on the Exclusive model we bought. I’m a bit p!ssed off as it was not cheap. I have a replacement Macan on order & I can’t help but think it may have things missing that my current Macan has got. I can live with the Mini deletions as frankly SWMBO doesn’t use half the stuff the car is fitted with anyway, the all singing & dancing satnav being an especial waste of money. However, if my Macan is similarly downgraded from my 2019 spec model I’ll be unhappy every time I get behind the wheel. I like the electric steering & easy access function and am now marvelling at it working every time I get into my present car.

These supply chain issues have been going on years. My 2014 Boxster S has Fisher-Price audio, no climate control (just basic manual A/C) and no lighting Sun-visor/vanity mirror lighting. Yet it has leather everything with stitching, embossed headrests and every go-faster option under the sun including limited-slip diff, sport chrono, PASM and PSE. I can't believe whoever ordered the car didn't care about feeling cool or looking cool after lapping the 'Ring. And nobody is that much of a cheapskate. Can only be supply chain issues...

I have had five new boxsters ( including 987 and 718 Spyders) and didnt specify climate control or stereo upgrade in any of them . Same experience for me with a Cayenne. A year after purchase I received a letter saying that they had given up on the idea of retrofitting the electric steering wheel gubbins and gave me £350 instead. It doesn’t ruin the car but it is a constant irritation as my wife and I like the steering wheel at different heights.

Not an assumption at all, rather a dig at the cheapskate who specced the car, or Porsche for not making those features standard. In my case it's one and the same entity as my car was a press car. Personally, I find automatic climate control more important in a convertible than in a tintop. I drive with the roof down in the height of summer, and sometimes on snowy days or at night when it can be chilly out. In my old car, the climate would adjust automatically to keep me cool enough or warm enough - whichever applies. Now when I open the roof, I have to fiddle with the temperature and blower settings every time. And when on a road trip involving motorway work, a convertible makes more wind noise and lets in more tyre roar. It's sometimes nice to turn up the stereo and listen to music, but not when the stereo is that awful. And not every driver or passenger in a car is a man. In fact more than 50% of the world's population are female, and shock horror, some of them like a driver's car too.

Sorry if you missed my point that I was trying to make - that it was not Porsche removing options but that it was how some individuals would chose to spec their car. Not everyone has the same requirements as your good self.

I'm also confused because in your post you said "Can only be supply chain issues...".

I can still remember the palpable excitement from my salesman June this year when he rang to say my Taycan CT had turned up unexpectedly and after a thorough inspection they were amazed to say it actually had ALL of the £24k of options (unlike the other 3 on the transporter which were held over for weeks and couldn’t be delivered due to missing amps/cameras/steering columns, etc…. It has affected all manufacturers to some degree and there are certainly going to be some funky spec used cars in the market come a couple of years times. Sorry but you are “off beam” with your assumption that the missing options you list are down to supply chain issues. These didn’t start hitting production until covid raised its ugly head. I have had five new boxsters ( including 987 and 718 Spyders) and didnt specify climate control or stereo upgrade in any of them . I see no point in even basic air con in a convertible ( which I drive 95% of the time roof down) or spending money on sound upgrade for the same reason. I am sure I am nit alone in this !!
