Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Folks, Can I get my 98 996 keys re coded to the alarm anywhere other than a dealer ? Iam based in Glos. Thanks Mark...

POST 2Original post

There are 2 elements to 996 keys, as far as the alarm/immobiliser is concerned: Radio remote: If this has lost function, you can try some of the reset procedures outlined in other posts (search posts for 'remote' by member GT4). If none of those work, the remote is toast. New ones come with a 24-digit bar code that needs to be coded to the car by anyone (indy or OPC) with a Porsche tester. BUT, in order to do this they need the Porsche IPAS security codes for your car. An indy could get them for you. Immobiliser transponder: The small glass pill inside the keyhead. These seldom fail, so if the key will start the car, then it is working. If for some strange reason it has lost its match to the alarm immobiliser, then it can be rematched to your car (and your car only) but again, the IPAS codes are needed.
