Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have just brought a 996 c4s auto on a 04 plate and have noticed that when I pull away from a dead stop it always is in 2nd gear. Is this normal or should it be going down to first.

POST 2Original post

Imagine this is the same as the 997 which also pulls away in second. You should notice from cold the first couple of starts are in 1st and if you put it in sport it also selects 1st..........

POST 3Original post

Perfectly normal for the tiptronic box, if you want 1st gear slip the lever to manual and drop it down. The rpm will be around 5800 when it changes to 2nd and then just before the red line for the other changes up the gears. TB

POST 4Original post

on the early zf boxes (up to 2000) you can get it to pull away in auto or manual in first gear manual just snick lever over and change down or do the above then go back to auto then to neutral and back to auto just before you pull away and it should select 1st not 2nd if you wait too long it will change back to 2nd at a standstill will still follow the variable programming then and not just rev up to 5800 and change not much difference but i find it good for a quicker getaway and then ease off at 4000 rpm and will change up rather than holding the gear as in manual mode also if you really boot it away you will find it will kickdown to 1st but you really have to floor the throttle to do this and fast too( virtually stamping on the pedal) is it bad i know this?

and the nissan micra that was beside you at the lights is now showing his rear end  TB
