I can get my car to display it if I ease the stick from P to R very, very, very, slowly, which is caused by a slow changeover on the multi-function switch on the bottom of the lever.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Not the best of posts, but wanted to find out if anyone is familiar with Tiptronic ECU failure.... what causes them, triggers, failure rates etc Mine has packed in, in what appears to be a result of a surge of some sort (as per the indy) - The tip ECU is pleasantly priced at £999.71(!) +vat +labour... diagnosed by a specialist.

POST 2Original post

saw one of these (early model part number for the 1998ish version) sell on ebay for £200 about a month ago its worth a search at the very least as £999 is alot for a box of tricks although not as bad as the control unit for the electric roof on my honda crx which cost £1330 3 years ago or about the same as the car was worth at the time! there must be plenty of breakers with these too cheers tim

POST 3Original post

dont know if this is the right part but just found this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PORSCHE-996-T...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item35a4cf5745 if not right one may still be a good source this is priced at £399 buy it now

POST 4Original post

That one is for the earlier ZF (pre-facelift) Tiptronic box, despite what the advert says. The price you have been given of £999 is pretty good. The list price is £1360+VAT. Do you have any of the fault codes from the diagnostic check?

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Guys - I made a note of the error code which was noted from plugging in a standard diagnostic tool (not the PWIS) - Will get it over to you, or are you after the codes from the PWIS system (Can ask this Indy) The 999+vat is the same as the OPC price, so not sure if the price has been reviewed etc. Im getting it part-funded from the warranty company which eases the damage I guess...

POST 6Original post

I would be interested to know what codes it showed. If they are generic OBD2 codes (Pxxxx) then I would like to look them up. If you can, I would get a diagnostic checkdone with a proper Porsche Tester. The "Tiptronic Emergency Run" message in the OBC can be caused by any number of things. I can get my car to display it if I ease the stick from P to R very, very, very, slowly, which is caused by a slow changeover on the multi-function switch on the bottom of the lever. Frightened the life out of me first time it happened.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

From a general diagnostic tool, error "P1702+" was displayed... This maybe different using the PIWIS... Does it shed any light? :?:

POST 8Original post

This shows the two possibilities, which are either a wiring fault (or bad connection) or the Tip module. The diagnostic sheets show a series of wiring and voltage checks which should be done before replacing the module. No doubt JZM have done that.....

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for this Richard! Much Apprec. :thumb:
