Hi, I am doing a clutch job on my '07 CS with 57K miles and moderate track use. Since I've owned the car (bought at 32Kmiles in 2010) I've noticed greasy buildup under the engine and transmission as thought there is a slow leak of oil that mixes with dirt since I live on a dirt road and blows up under everything. The car does not lose enough oil to ever have to add any between oil changes. Below is a pic showing oozing under the IMS seal. Is it possible this isn't coming from IMS? The bellhousing area was full of grime like this as well. I am doing this in my garage and really do not want to get involved with finding TDC, locking the engine, buying (and waiting for) a specialty tool, and changing the seal. Since the amount of leakage seems not to be an issue and the fact it has been doing it for several years, should I leave it be and put everything back together? Also, does everyone do the flywheel seal? It appears to be fine and from what I've read rarely fails on 2006+ cars.
If it were mine, I'd replace both the RMS and IMS seals. Doesn't make sense not to since you're already in there. The RMS seals in particular, are well know to leak a little.
Yes, I've been thinking about it more and think it would be dumb not to just do them both. Just sucks that the car will be out of commission longer. I was hoping to get it back together in the
next
few days. I just registered for
Cayman
Registry so I can see the article on changing the IMS seal. What is consensus on RMS...use the Curil T or put it in dry? Also, flywheel bolt torque I see all over the place. Some use blue Threadlocker with 66 ft/lb, some go 19 ft/lb then 120 degrees, some do other things. The originals had blue threadlocker and once I initially broke the seal of it, didn't seem to be torqued all that high.
I read the article on CaymanRegister by Gator Bite. It's a great article and I think I can handle this but I have a few questions posted on there. Anyone who has experience with this, my questions are as follow
1)I have a BBI underdrive pulley and it is noted that the crankshaft alignment tool won't work with it. It seems to me that the crankshaft alignment tool has two purposes. It locks the engine, but it also finds the exact location of TDC. How do I ensure that you are at TDC since I can't use the crankshaft alignment tool? Does it have to be that exact or is it "good enough" if the cams are oriented properly and the pulley and engine marks line up? Does the BBI pulley even have a TDC mark? I'm also nervous that whoever installed it may not have payed attention to lining it up correctly anyway, so not sure if that line is going to line up. It was on the car when I got it and some of the work that was done was not done correctly. Has anyone done this job with an underdrive pulley or can give specific instructions on a work-around for me?
2)Would high pressure assembly grease work well on the splines for the clutch and the pivoting parts for the clutch fork? I used Sil Glyde on clutch fork and was going to buy spline grease but this looks like it would be as good or better for all. (I don't think the product listed at the top of the article is available anymore)

3)The generic IMS shaft oring- I think it's 10x1.5mm. Is that right and is that all I need to know to be able to order it?
Thanks! Hope someone can help. I'd like to get driving soon.
. Thanks.
The guys at the
Cayman
Register are great about responding. You will hear from them.
Still not heard from anyone on there. I pretty much figured out what I'm going to do. Bought a used OEM pulley on Ebay to use as a tool for alignment for less than $20. Just ordered the alignment tools (Chinese knockoffs for $70 instead of $200+) and all the parts from Pelican. Hopefully everything will come
next
week and I'll be wrenching
next
weekend. Will get everything prepped this weekend that I can so I can bang this out.
It's only rms leak.... Pretty sure this build up like **** I got same with mine.
And ims can't be change without rebuild for all

the myth of 2006 is nothing mine is base

2006 they all have the same ims because of motors m97. 2
RMS doesn't look like it has leaked. Doesn't have anything dripping from it but IMS has oil all around it. It's not a failed bearing, just the seal, but it's a tough job to repair. Doesn't need a rebuild though. If someone else wants to chime in and confirm which seal it looks like, that would be great, but it looks to me like it has to be IMS.
