What sound system is in the GT3. If it is the same stock, I heard its the standard piece of garbage that came with my 99 C2. If so I still want the car to look stock. Does it make sense to use the stock head unit and modify the speakers, and change the amp and maybe add a sub, w/o changing the deck? Let me know. Thanks

POST 6Original post

Don't expect to listen the the stereo while driving. 8,200 rpm without sound insulation... If you're worried about audio quality, then the GT3 isn't for you. I would've ordered mine without a radio (delete option in ROW), but not available in US

POST 7Original post

Funny that you guys should post this. I was thinking about putting in an aftermarket nav system, since PCM is not an option. Don't know why, just think it might come in handy, and the screen looks so cool in the dash. Shouldn't add too much weight... or does it???

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

"If you're worried about audio quality, then the GT3 isn't for you. I would've ordered mine without a radio (delete option in ROW), but not available in US" Grant, thats like saying if you are worried about speed limits then the GT3 is not for you.

POST 9Original post

RR- You missed my point. I'm not against enjoying a nice stereo - I build them myself (my favorite hobby after cars). Here are some goofy photos: http://www.teresaudio.com/haven/friends/grantg.html However, the GT3 is not a suitable platform for enjoying the stereo - unless the car is parked. It is suitable for tracking (where speed limits do not apply). Anything that adds weight or is otherwise contrary to the purpose of the car is in my opinion, undesirable...

POST 11Original post

I currently drive a Z06, the engine note on this vehicle is superb...the V8 just sounds awesome it also had a Bose sound system, which has been taken out and replaced with a Kenwood head unit, Boston Acoustic Pro speakers all the way around, 2 PPI amps and a removable enclosing that houses two JL Audio 10" subs...when you step in the car the only thing you can see is the head unit everything else still looks stock...When I go to the track, I remove the subs and amps (which are located where they are easily reached). I have a GT3 on order and plan to do the something similar, IMO its the closest I've come to a perfect compromise between having a race car that I drive on legal roads and then turn right around and take it to where it belongs, the racetrack. Just my $.02

In response to the Z06 guy, I like the car, but the exhaust is WAY TOO LOUD. Uncomfortable. I dont blame you for juicing up your stereo, you need it. Sounds like a nice system.

POST 14Original post

John Murray, You're partially correct. Its very loud at full throttle, but the biggest issue wasn't engine sound, like I said I enjoy that, its road noise. Once you're at speed above 100Km (62 MPH) and just cruisin' down the highway at a pretty even pace the engine is very much quite, but the road noise SUCKS!!! I suspect it will be somewhat the same in the GT3 as neither one of these cars have noise deadding (Spell?) materials. And there's just something about listening to RADAR LOVE while driving a true sports/race car.

POST 15Original post

I bet we could do an age split here: i can't remember when i last used the CD player in a TT, GT2 ... who gives 2 poops about the stereo in a GT3, it's got a 8200 redline stereo.... and it adds weight all those base speakers don't forget the Burberry pattern custom upholstery, Wilbur can get it for you... right Wilbur?

POST 16Original post

Hey watt, I know, I know there's nothing like 8-tracks but the fact is that if individuals on this forum ask these types of questions it's because THEY give three poops about it. Your opinion is always welcomed but no need to be rude about a topic your not interested in. Havin' said that everyone's different opinions is what makes a forum interesting and fun.

POST 17Original post

I have to say that Carlos has the best looking speaker enclosure I have ever seen in a Porsche. I'm having one built for my C4S.

POST 18Original post

Burberry? He has more choices than that. ****, who needs the full leather interior or the carbon package, when he can do your car in Gucci or Louis Vuitton fabric. The real stuff, too! While we're at it, I'll put those Davin spinner wheels in 22", with 2 18" subs blaring some gangsta rap. I also need a neon license plate, neon ground lighting in the undercarriage, some fuzzy dice for the mirrors, and CHROME everywhere. I also need some 8" diameter exhaust tips in GOLD. The car will be called DA GT TRE, cuz ya know DA GT DEUCE be played out yo. YO YO YO YO YO YO SHEEEEEEEEEET. Bling bling! Aaahhhh... kids these days, eh watt?

POST 19Original post

Amen MJSpeed, it's like someone can't enjoy a GT3 and enjoy good sound. No sound system sounds good in a car compared to a really good sound system in an acoustically perfect room...so let's see, i guess it's idiotic to have a sound system in any car then...or better yet, i bet everyone talking about adding weight could lose a few lbs if it really mattered. but then again, hot air in the "big-head" makes for lighter curb weight...errrr, doesn't it? i'm glad we have closed minded people to blast back at...it does make for a great forum. i love this place!

POST 20Original post

Hmmm... Now I'm kinda worried Porsche will defocus the next US bound GT3 based on customer surveys, or simply not import it at all...

POST 21Original post

I agree, MetalSolid. I want the cars to have less weight and fewer amenities. We need to show Porsche that there is a demand for that in the US. If you want a nice stero and AC, etc. get a Turbo. The GT3 is supposed to be like the 73 911RS 2.7 - that car had no radio!

POST 22Original post

Amen, GrantG. P-Zen, chill out man, we're just here to have fun and express our opinions. After all, I DID say I was thinking about putting a NAV system in mine. What can I say, that touch screen looks pretty cool! Hopefully, it won't weigh much more than the stock radio. But I can definitely see the purist's point of view in not including a radio. Don't you guys remember back in the day when Ferrari didn't include radios? Besides, you wouldn't put a bumpin sound system in a Ferrari F40, would you? Well, that's how some people feel about the GT3. A pure raw sports car, whose soprano voice at 8200 rpm shouldn't compete for attention!!!

POST 23Original post

i'm chillin'... i just find it humorous that the reference is to 8200 rpms, when surely the car will spend most of its life way below...and surely most of you GT3 buyers are gonna drive on the street, whereas you'll spend lots of time behind people and at traffic lights, now, that's when you crank up your Soprano singing Madame Butterfly or Figaro. Figaro, Figaro, Figaro.......

POST 24Original post

Since I'm planning to use my GT3 primarily as a street car, I am considering replacing the stock head unit with a TrafficPro for the Nav feature. It shouldn't weigh much more than the stock unit and I use the Nav system in my other vehicles fairly often. I know the TrafficPro doesn't have a nice color screen but the reviews I've read said it's directions are adequate. Becker has a new version called the OnlinePro that includes a hands-free phone and Internet/e-mail access but it's not available in the US yet. Karl

POST 25Original post

P-Zen - One of the benefits of living in Colorado is that the roads are like a racetrack. The car won't be my work commuting car (I live 12 blocks from work anyways). The multitude of winding mountain roads here (as well as the 4 racetracks conveniently located) will allow me to drive the car as intended. I'll be at 8,200 rpm much more often than stuck in traffic ;-)

POST 26 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Karl have you heard anymore of your car, last time you mentioned that its completion date was April 21. Just wondering if you have any updates on delivery.

POST 27Original post

I worder how great the GT3 at 8200rpms sounds stuck in a traffic jam? Its funny how some people rather not have the option to listen to music or not depending if you are in a twisty mountain road or communting to work in the morning just so as not to have a 10Kg weight ballast of a basic stereo because it will hinder their handling soooo muuuuuuch. I suppose GT3 owners must work out so as not to be 10Kg overweight either Give me a break, installing a Tip on a GT3 is one thing, but installing a basic stereo on a GT3 for street use is just common sense. Traffic and road conditions vary enormously from place to place, and while I can push it to the limits on my way to work here in the morning, and I do , others can only do that from time to time.

POST 28Original post

POST 29Original post

Just a quick question, how many of you will race in an organized championship where weight is of utmost importance? See I plan on going to the track and enjoying what this car has to offer. Now away from the track if I choose drive while listening to opera, rap and hip-hop or heavy metal is my problem. I will take out the speakers and amps when I go to the track, but if someone decides that they want to track the car with additional weight that's their problem just make sure to wave at them as you go by them.

POST 30Original post

more from Carlos, same flat-6 thread: "My personal view is that a GT3 is meant for a purpose we all know, if your driving is not spilling the drink on that cupholder all over the car, then you bought the wrong car for your driving needs, a TT would have been a better choice I would think. But thats just my opinion. Whats next, a cigar humidifier in the arm rest of a GT2 like on the Bentley Cornige Mulliner Limo"

POST 32Original post

I'm really surprised to see that so many future GT3 owners are going to use the car as a daily driver. My father has owned several 911s. One of them being an 80's Targa with sport suspension. That car drove on rails, but needed an additional seat belt for your kidneys. He and I both agree that my 996 is a much more comfortable daily driver. I can only imagine how tight the suspension will be on the GT3. You guys have some serious ***** (although maybe not for long ). I'm sure it will be a fun car and I can't wait to see one on the street. I think if you have the money you should be able to do whatever you want with it, even if it is not practical (or especially if it is not practical).

POST 33Original post

Well Watt, the point you missed is that there is a difference; a stereo is not going to slow you down, while a drink in the cupholder is, even while commuting. Thats why I'm "pro stereo but no cup holder". So if it comes with a cupholder stock, its fine with me, there no added weight or loss of performance, but just strange in a GT3 in Europe. And the second point that you missed is that, in Europe, it is not frequent to have a drink while driving, in ANY car not only sportcars. So you won't see as many people asking for cupholders when they buy a car. Its just a difference in ideosyncracy, just like its not custom here to talk on the non-handsfree cellular or drive on the left lane except when passing, both are even ilegal. Thats why I was wondering if thats the reason why this GT3 is carrying cupholders STOCK while the previous one didn't is because it is now also sold in the US. BTW Watt, when you quote someone else's posts from another forum, its courtesy to quote or link the entire thread with follow up replies and all in its context and not just selected pieces, members of this forum may not rear the other forum.
