Has anyone experienced a decrease in power including engine misfiring at about 3500-4000 rpms?? I currently have Fabspeed 200 cell cats (3000 miles), a Borla catback system and The Softronic Plenum. About 2 weeks ago in anticipation of my 20,000 mile service I re flashed the software to original. About 2 days later a backfire caused the check engine light to come on. The engine ran fine for about another week but over the last 2-3 days I cannot get over 4000 rpm's, any attempt to do so causes misfiring. I was thinking that this was the ECU protecting itself for having the CEL on for an extended time. I'm hoping the cats are OK as I don't want to go to the expense or hassle of removing them and exchanging. I was suspecting this may be a bad ignition coil on one of the plugs as well... A few days ago I ordered the Durametric software and am still waiting to get it. If anyone out there has experience this please chime in and thanks!
This is important stuff, too important to be applying guess work. I'd get it into the dealership, or at the very least get more info out of the
DME
with the Durametrics software before you drive any more.
what was the cause? my car is doing this too......i have the borla, SRP and flash 4.
I had the exact same problem. I had the Fabspeed headers with catalysts removed and replaced them with OEM headers. Problem was solved. On examination, the cats in the Fabspeed headers were broken. They have since replaced them under warranty. I had them put back on. So far no problems.
The main issue with mine turned out to be an oil soaked MAF sensor! I cleaned it and the intake components up to the throttle body and the problem was essentially solved!
Question for you. What type of air filter are you using?
And how was said air filter installed?
If I follow GB's reasoning, you may have missed a critical installation note on the K&N, EVO and alike high flow air filters. To avoid MAF failures due to oil, you have to blow the excess oil off of them with an air compressor.
stock air filter installed.....
I use a stock air filter as well. The problem actually came up about 400-500 miles after I had installed the Softronic Plenum, for some reason the oil wants leak beyond the throttle body and run down the silicone elbow and collect near the MAF, which hadn't happened with my stock plenum after 12,000 miles of driving. I think it is oil/fuel vapor that actually caused the problem because the MAF does not touch the bottom of the intake tube where the oil collected. I had to clean it about three times in less than 5000 miles. I did figure out that running the engine with about 3/4 of a quart less oil helps alot, and its been about 5000 miles since the last cleaning. Since I change my air filter every 10,000 miles I just plan to routinely clean the MAF sensor at the same time. CRC is the product I use and it works great! I would recommend that everyone clean their MAF sensor even if you have had no problems, it really make the engine more responsive and "crisp"...
i cleaned my maf and still same problem.... grrr....
