2007 2.7 with 27k miles. I've had this car for 2 weeks. It was found in the ppi that the rear main was "seeping" at the bellhousing. Where did they see this from? I would like to start keeping tabs on this for a couple months before I take it in here in my territory. Is there an inspection cover that looks in the bellhousing. Do some of those plastic covers on the bottom have to come off? I just want to be prepared when I get it up in the air.. Thanks, C.
I would forget monitoring this and take it in while it's still under warranty!!!!!!
You would have to have the car up and look where the transmission joins the engine. Should be exposed without removing covers.
There is a place the oil will drip that can be seen pretty easily. Look a the picture here:
Cayman Register
According to the techs at Porsche of Arlington, oil shows up here every time there are RMS problems.
Go to your servicing dealer immediate, first to minimize the amount of oil on your clutch and second to ensure that PNA pays for repair. If it were I would would offer to pay for new clutch, check the pressure plate and thrust bearing....just to make sure its in top condition....but pray that your new RMS doesn't leak
Engine ID number...
Looking at my PPI report, it says my engine ID # is 65704730. On the LN Engineering site, that corresponds to an earlier Boxster double row type bearing and the M96.22 and .21 engine. My car has a build date of 09/06. Is it possible I don't have the newest version of the IMS bearing? Thanks, C.
Edit: I just recorded the number from the crankcase: M972065704730
This is better news but I saw for myself that the area around the bellhousing is "stained" but not actually wet. I will get it in. But, do I want to see inside with my own eyes? Do I want to see if the Main is dry and the IMS wet. Or is the Main causing it and I should remain hopeful on the IMS?
Re: Engine ID number...
hopefully the warranty is in place....but from what I can tell a dealer can best tell you about your car and what may, or may not have been done to it...
After reading so much about the LN Engineering retro fits, I can't help but be anxious. My warranty is up next May so I feel like this is a one shot deal now. Things like the IMS upgrade from LNE or seal modification to stock would require a tear down same as stock IMS seal service. I just want to do this right. Please, someone correct me if I'm wrong. C.
I agree with you...you want to build the record that encourages your dealer to support you in problem area and PNA doesn't seem to share alot of info....but if you support the dealer...so he will be your advocate...I would hope that is best
