Suggestion

I agreed to buy an '03 C2 for $1,000 over invoice for a car on the ground....MSRP was $78,000 plus....I had to nix the deal....You can get comparative numbers on the consumer guides site, but I think the base invoice went up $1,100 or $1,500 from 2002 to 2003...there is your first deduction....all in all I would be looking for $6,000 to $10,000 under invoice....If it has been used as a "demo",the warranty starts to run when the dealer declared it to be a demo.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Since I have been spending so much time at the dealer lately, I took a look around at their inventory and noticed a brand new 2002 with the right colors and decently optioned. Question is, with the 2004's on their way soon, what percentage under sticker should one expect to pay? The warranty starts on the manufacture date doesn't it? It could be almost 24 months into the warranty. TIA.

POST 2Original post

The warranty starts with the 'in service date,' which is the date you take possession of the car. As far as how much under sticker, I would say that you would want to be $5K under dealer invoice for a 2002. However, I am sure your dealer will maintain that invoice is fair for a 'new' car. Keep us posted!

POST 3Original post

I got 5% ($4k) off on my 02 and I purchased it in January of 02. You should get a better deal then that.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My source (Edmunds) does not have the invoice price listed. What is the invoice price on a base 2002 C2?

POST 5Original post

The MSN/carpoint website has a nice worksheet for optioning out a car and seeing the MSRP and invoice accumulate next to each other. Unfortunately you're at the mercy of the data loaded, and in the Porsche case they seem to be missing the invoice prices on the options (but they have it on the base). Start at www.carpoint.com and click the "new car" link on the left side. -jerry

Kelly Blue Book (kbb.com) has factory invoice numbers.

POST 7Original post

Base MSRP - $67,900 Base Invoice Est (16%)- $58,500

POST 8Original post

I'd try to get $7,500 off - I got $6,500 off an 02 at the end of 01...

Never hurts to make an offer....if you are trading and or financing via the dealer the water tends to get muddy.

POST 10Original post

for a new 2002 966, you should recieve a sizeable discount. by sizeable, here is what i mean-if the car has a sticker price of $80,000, you should pay something around $70,000. with the residual lower, leasing would not be as good as buying. a careful buyer could get a heck of a deal on a 2002.

POST 11Original post

I think you should do far better than $7,000. I just negotiated to secure something to that effect off an '04 C4S. If there is an '02 sitting on the lot (remember the '04s are just over the horizon), you should easily be able to do 10-12, if not more. I can't see how a dealer wouldn't bend over backwards to move that '02.

POST 12Original post

Unless they offer you something well below invoice, I wouldn't do it. You can probably find a 2003 for close to invoice today.
