Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am considering removing the
cdr24
radio with
Bose sound system
from my car. Does anyone know the
Cayman
R "Radio Delete" part number (the dash panel / shelf)?
Thanks
Martin
I got the radio delete, but does anyone have a NON-Subwoofer black passenger side carpet and floor mat for sale or a part number?. I noticed that they are not the same for non
Bose
cars and there is no carpeting behind the subwoofer.
Thanks
After collecting dust on a shelf, today I finally installed the "radio delete shelf" and removed the entire
BOSE System
out of the car incl. all 7 speakers. Also I am replacing the passenger side interior carpet with a non-
Bose
one (found on eBay) and the passenger side 12V power
plug
carpet covered cover with a non-
BOSE
one.
The surprise was how light this audio system is, it only saved 20lbs by removing the audio system. Maybe there will be another pound or two if I decide to remove the audio wiring harness.
Next
will be replacing the "Cup Holders" with a "Cup Holder Delete Option". If someone wants cup holders, I am willing to trade for the "Cup Holder Delete" (Trim color = Silver preferred)
20 pounds for everything? I might do the same thing. I've had a 2012 CR for a week and doubt if I will ever use the "radio" and navigation. I am disappointed in the sound (as I was in the 2011 base
cayman
that I traded) and on the few occasions that I need nav I use a late-model
Garmin
that I bought at Sams Club, which has a better interface.
I will say that stuffing the woofer with foam on the 2011 base
cayman
made the system sound better, but I seldom used the system in any event.
20 pounds loss might actually be significant in the CR. And those little shelf/bins actually clean up the center console area pretty well. It might be time for the old
ipod
and earbuds.
I don't want to hijack the thread - but since you raised the point. I don't get why people are disappointed with the sound in the Cayman R? The car has practically no sound insulation which IMHO is the single biggest element degrading the sound quality. At standstill, the system sounds fine and more than suitable. Certainly better than ear buds which are illegal BTW in CA.
Weight may be a justification, but not the basic quality of the sound. The nav system I won't argue with you on....both the Navigon app on my iPhone and the Tom Tom I own have better interfaces than the PCM. Stuck in traffic however, I'm happy to have the radio with Sound Plus.
If it's a pure track car, then these options should have just been deleted at the onset.
"At standstill, the system sounds fine and more than suitable." I agree with you there. My disappointment is with how it sounds when I'm actually driving the car. I also agree that the biggest factor is probably the lack of sound insulation in the CR, not the quality of the sound system; in any event my trade-in
Cayman
also had the
Bose
, and I very seldom used it. I bought the R on impulse while my other
cayman
was being serviced, and that
Bose system
happened to be in the car I drove and bought. I would have gladly "deleted" it in exchange for the charge on the invoice. In any event I bought the car because of how much fun I had on the test drive and we didn't turn on the
Bose
once during that drive.
"Weight may be a justification, but not the basic quality of the sound." The weight issue was what I was interested in, if the
Bose system
comes in at 20 pounds. I was/am wondering about whether or not I might remove the
Bose
if I don't listen to it anyway. I'm pretty much ambivalent at this point since this isn't a track car for me, nor a daily driver. But it did seem odd to find a CR with the sound system, especially if there is a 20 pound penalty for having it included.
Air Conditioning was also included on the model I bought. No question or concern about that since where I live we "need" AC about 9 months out of the year. So I was happy to get it. As I was the car,
Bose
, and those fancy Turbo II wheels. I'm even starting to like those red door-pulls that save so much weight.
Yes, I don't understand why
Porsche
even offers the
Cayman
R with AC and Radio, it's the that same story with the
GT3
RS at least in the US. My guess it's probably because there are people who buy these cars just to buy the fastest model
Porsche
makes and then they complain for the flywheel rattle noise.
I removed the complete AC system (27lbs) and
Bose Sound System
incl. all speaker (20lbs) out of my
Cayman S
. The
GT3
Bucket seats also saved a lot of weight, but then the rollbar and 6 point belts added the weight saved from the seats back.
Note: The radio itself is not heavy, the heaviest parts are the amp and the subwoofer. If you remove the
Bose Subwoofer
, you will also need to replace entire floor carpet, 12V
plug
side panel and floor mat. Which is easy to do, but the seat and center console will have to come out.
Or because we like driving our R's on the street and on-track. This is not the same ride as a GT3 RS; it's actually quite comfortable. The only reason I listen to the radio is NPR going to & from work. I don't need a great stereo for that, ergo, no Bose.
YMMV,
John
OK, I'm about to change my opinion on the
Bose
....
Earlier post I mentioned that I didn't care for the sound, and that I didn't listen to the system much, so I was thinking about taking out the
Bose
for the weight reduction.
This morning I fiddled with the controls some then took off on a 200 mile roundabout looking for some twisties and interesting back roads, and lo and behold, I actually enjoyed listening to the stereo as I drove out and back. We all know the CR is already loud, and I have the HIP "glass" over the engine so my model is louder than loud.
I have the
ipod
interface so I played a mix of Meat Loaf, Dire Straits, Sara Brightman, some gospel, etc. It all sounded pretty good. Now I'm thinking I will probably leave the music system in place.
Bose
is reprieved, for now.
And if you REALLY want a noise experience, try driving the car without the engine cover or noise abatement insulation, which I did for about a mile. I can only repeat what another person posted about this little experiment...."not for the faint hearted!!"
Bit of a thread resurrection. I am interested in deleting the cdr 24 with
bose
from my 07
cayman s
but without touching the doors or anything that will see me knee deep in wires or anything that will trigger an error code. I was thinking of just unplugging the cdr 24, the woofer in the passenger well and the amp in the front trunk/boot (or whatever you call it) if it is that simple. Could anyone offer any tips advice or things to look out for? Basically i never used the system and i now i have a
carnewal exhaust
the radio is even more useless. Thanks in advance.
