While I will stick to the manufacturer's maintenance schedule, I would prefer to easily (important) change my oil more frequently.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Outcome without a verified action link

Interestingly, it didn't work on my friend's GMC Denali either due to the dipstick tube having a crimp somewhere along the path.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Has anyone ever used one of those vacuum assisted oil removal pumps during an oil change? While I will stick to the manufacturer's maintenance schedule, I would prefer to easily (important) change my oil more frequently. Here is a link to one of these pumps. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=45403

POST 2Original post

You will never get that tube down into the oil pan of a Boxster. Others have tried. Just do it the old fashioned way via the drain plug.

POST 3Original post

I have a Mityvac extractor that I used to use on my bimmers. It was great. I would get the engine up to operating temp and extract all the oil out without fear of scalding myself. The oil filter was easily accessed since it was on top. Oil changes couldn't have been easier. But like TP says, I don't think it'll work for the Boxster. The dipstick on the Box is 20 miles long. Plus, you still have to crawl under to get to the filter so there's not too much benefit. Interestingly, it didn't work on my friend's GMC Denali either due to the dipstick tube having a crimp somewhere along the path. But when it works, it works well. -
